The Infection Prevention (IP)/Outbreak Response Public Health Nurse position is a temporary, 12-month, position within the Outbreak Prevention and Response and Worksite Exposure (OWE) Unit. The OWE Unit is part of the Disease Containment Branch of the City’s Emergency Operations Center that is activated to respond to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The IP Public Health Nurse will primarily respond to COVID-19 worksite exposures providing guidance and mitigating COVID-19 disease spread. In addition, the PHN collaborates with medical providers, community-based organizations, departmental and other City staff; provides guidance to medical providers and community; and performs other related functions as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide direct support to the Deputy Health Officer (DHO) in response to COVID-19 worksite investigations and outbreaks.
Assists with COVID-19 worksite contact investigations.
Provide consults to worksites, schools, skilled nursing facilities regarding COVID-19 exposures and related guidance.
Support worksites, including but not limited to; skilled nursing facilities, long-term care facilities and other facilities regarding infection control practices, COVID-19 exposures, testing, and other guidance as needed.
Interview cases and contacts to elicit information regarding COVID-19 infection and potential exposures as indicated.
Receive referrals from and work closely with the DHO.
Work within CalREDIE and CalCONNECT to respond to and process positive COVID-19 cases and worksite exposures.
Be knowledgeable and keep informed on current state and federal guidelines regarding COVID-19 and other communicable diseases.
Establish and maintain relationships with medical providers, community-based organizations, care facilities, businesses, and other organizations, as needed.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have experience in providing clinical care, infection control, and conducting quality/performance improvement in health care settings.
Similar experience in other work settings is desirable.
Education/Experience
Graduation from an approved/accredited school of nursing and a current California Registered Nurse license, required.
Minimum of one year of full-time recent experience within the last five years as a registered nurse in a clinical and/or public health setting, required.
Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC Credential) or minimum of two years’ experience in Infection Prevention/Control.
Certificates/Licenses/Clearances
Current and active license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of California, required.
Valid California motor vehicle operator’s license, required.
Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC®) Credential, preferred
