Operations Supervisor at GREATER CHICAGO FOOD DEPOSITORY in Chicago, Illinois

Job Description:

Supervises the departmental and daily activities of the assigned operations teams. Emphasis on the expansion of the receiving schedule and all departmental tasks related to it. Ability to understand the flow of entire operations to support all departments.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:


  • Plan and Schedule assignments for Operations teams

  • Supervise assigned staff towards accomplishing daily tasks related to assigned department.

  • Ensure Food/Personal safety procedures are being followed in all areas of the warehouse.

  • Conduct orientation training for new operations workers.

  • Supervise the daily activity of staff, including temporary workers, volunteers and workforce development personal, ensuring adherence of GCFD personnel policies.

  • Troubleshoot issues in a timely manner that arise during shift.

  • Provide instructional training in policy, procedures and all regulatory compliances as it relates to forklifts and operators, including compliances with any local, state and federal rules, regulations and laws.

  • Work with warehouse manger to properly assign tasks to warehouse team members.

  • Work closely with warehouse manager to ensure product is received, stored and shipped appropriately.

  • Train operations team members in basic safety, sanitation and quality assurance standards for handling of food products and equipment.

  • Provide support to all operations teams, including cross-training employees.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.


  • High school diploma/GED equivalent experience.

  • 1 year of supervisory experience in a warehouse environment preferred

  • Proficiency in MS Office- Excel, Access and Word.

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to supervise and coach operations teams.

  • Ability to learn and interpret GCFD product stock codes.

  • Administrative abilities for invoice processing, labor time keeping, production management, record keeping and general warehouse document processing.

  • Possess Food Sanitation Certificate or be capable of obtaining certification.

  • Possess OSHA certified trainer certificate or be capable of obtaining certification.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Exposure:


  • Normal warehouse environment; exposure to refrigerated and freezer environments.

  • Interact with GCFD staff, volunteers, and temporary job participants.
