Extrusion/Coating Department Manager at Sonoco Products Company in Franklin Park, Illinois

Job Description:

While reporting to the Plant Manager, the Extrusion/Coating Department Manager will be responsible for leading, directing and coaching the production supervisors and employees within the Extrusion/Coating Department to maintain a safe work environment, as well as meet the quality policy of Sonoco Franklin Park, Illinois. You will passionately improve our processes, using data and a cross section of subject matter experts. This position is a growth opportunity in a large Tier I Sonoco facility.

You will:

• Train and coach safety awareness for the employee and the for the plastic extrusion and coating department


• Train and guide supervisors in incident investigations (Intelex) and risk reduction techniques


• Optimize resources, operators and machines and cycle times, to meet the combined efficiency goals


• Develop processes and hold supervisors accountable to move operators in a timely manner to improve labor utilization


• Implement a strategy to improve operators' skills and training to run equipment so that the supervisor has time to manage material usage and improve the processes


• Manage improvements in material usage by working with supervisors to minimize scrap at startups and react quickly to quality problems to minimize reject scrap and rework


• Learn and implement quality standards by working with the quality manager and quality technicians to insure we meet the customer requirements for quality.


• Manage inventories accuracy of 99%. Ensure all Oracle (ERP) paperwork and entries are con correctly and in a timely manner for Extrusion operations


• Co-lead the daily production meeting with the Thermoforming and Extrusion Departments to ensure the process is meeting the requirements of the schedule


• Active participant in SPS (world class manufacturing) steering team activities

This position is located in Franklin Park, Illinois within a fast-paced thermoformed plastic food packaging 24/7 manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate will have:

• Bachelor's Degree


• 
  Bilingual - English / Spanish (required for Extrusion Department Manager)
  


• 3-5+ Years of Manufacturing experience; plastics a plus


• Technology proficient and able to utilize Quality and MRP databases


• Experience with Lean Manufacturing tools is a plus.
