Boart Longyear is looking to hire a new Product Manager. This key position is part of the global product management team in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The position of Product Manager Capital Spares is responsible for supporting profitable growth in the Products organization through effective management of drill rig spare parts and aftermarket support resources. It is a highly qualified technical role that also requires strong cross-functional collaboration, particularly with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Sales. Support and training of customers and internal resources is critical. Building on the existing business segment, the Product Manager both develops the long-term vision as well as executes the plan to optimize both company and customer success.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant technical experience with machinery or heavy equipment. Longer experience or a specific background in the mining or construction industries, or in spare parts, a plus.


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a two-year degree with extensive and relevant experience.


  • Analytical skills, attention to details, commitment to accurate results, and desire to take full ownership for area of responsibility.


  • Demonstrated ability of providing results and specific deliverables on hard deadlines.


  • Interpersonal skills to gain support from personnel in other functions.


  • Strong communications skills, verbally and in writing.


  • Inquisitive mind to understand how equipment works and customer needs to ensure reliable operation.


  • Familiarity with supply chain and logistics networks a plus.


  • Experience in MS office a must. Experience in Oracle and Windchill is a plus.


  • Experienced in creating preventative maintenance plans and Life Cycle Cost models.


  • Available to travel 10-20% when needed.


Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:


  • Ownership of commercial parameters for spare parts, including cost analysis, pricing strategy, service categories, and other classifications.


  • Facilitate the collection of customer spare parts needs and translate to measurable supply chain demand.


  • Digital aftermarket systems owner of SPIN - Spare Parts Information Network. System administrator for digital development projects and content publishing to maintain current parts manuals that align with new product launches and running engineering changes.


  • Manage the library of operations manuals.


  • Product Lifecyle management duties including ramping up support of new products and discontinuance of support for legacy machines according to business guidelines.


  • Maintain a global fleet population database.


  • Review and approval of engineering changes as relating to spare parts strategy.


  • Assist in Service and Safety Bulletin creation, implementation, and tracking.


  • Support the creation of recommended spare parts list.


  • Analyze and evaluate parts consumption history, make stock recommendations, to rationalize the total number of SKU's offered and to eliminate redundancy.


  • Define part commodity codes to assist in creating a pricing strategy.


  • Key Parts liaison for Boart Longyear with engineering, marketing, manufacturing, sourcing, finance and legal.


  • Gap analysis calculations based on regional population and support for marketing plans.


  • Partner with Technical service group and Business Partners to translate practical service requirements into customer support documentation.


  • Help translate between engineering bills of materials and service bills of materials to be used in product support manuals for new and existing products.


  • Drive resolution of customer issues, working with sales, customer support, manufacturing and engineering.


  • Help manage the "end of life" and sunsetting of older products.
