The CNC machinist operates computer numerical control machines to fabricate parts. The CNC machinist loads parts in the machine, cycle's machine and detects malfunctions in machine operations, such as worn or damaged cutting tools. The position runs production lots, communicates with co-workers regarding productions runs, and maintains a safe, organized and clean work environment. Employee will also use CAD/CAM software to program CNC machines.

Essential Functions


  • Handle and operate any machinery, tools or equipment used safely while performing job duties.

  • Performs all assigned machine shop operations.

  • Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to management or designee.

  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follows prescribed safety procedures.

  • Regularly performs milling, turning, drilling, tapping, de-burring, sawing.

  • Performs inspection of machined products, and documents results.

  • Completes and maintains paperwork for parts.

  • Repair, modify, troubleshoot and maintain tools as required

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud and use of PPE (ear plugs) is required.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be regularly required to:


  • Remain stationary for extended periods of time

  • Move around Tool Room

  • Communicate with Tool Room Management and team

  • Position self to ground level as needed to adjust machinery, or other lower level tasks

  • Move, adjust, and position anywhere from 10 to 85 lbs

  • Manipulate small parts, tools, levers, and other small, hand-eye coordinated tasks.

Required Education and Experience


  • High School Diploma/GED

  • 2 years related experience

  • Experience with conventional grinder, CNC mill, and CNC lathe

  • Ability to learn how to read and understand blue prints and schematics

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience with basic electrical circuits a plus
