Department Description: Pharmacy Technicians are eligible for a $1,500 sign-on bonus to be paid out within 30 days of hire.*

We are currently seeking talent individuals to join our team! These positions will be supporting our Patient Vaccination Sites to provide vaccines to our patient population. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience and give back to the community, while enhancing individual skills! Locations will vary between Boston (Temple Israel), Dorchester, and Chelsea.

We are seeking individuals who have flexibility with hours and schedules.

Job Summary: Responsible for unit dose distribution including familiarity with medications, dosage forms and storage requirements. Communicates with Pharmacists and Nursing Staff to insure timely preparation and delivery of medications. Prepares and repackages medications into unit of use products. Delivers medications including controlled substances nursing areas and ancillary departments in accordance to established policies and procedures and DEA and DPH regulations.

Essential Responsibilities:


  1. Monitors medication order reports and assigns medications to automated dispensing cabinets. Reviews current
    inventory list for automated dispensing cabinets to determine medications that should be removed based on
    knowledge of unit based practice site and the types of medications used on each site.

  2. Delivers controlled substances to automated dispensing cabinets in compliance with all DEA and DPH regulations.
    Monitors expiration dates of controlled substances automated dispensing cabinets. Acts as witness for Pharmacists
    to destroy or secure expired controlled substance and narcotic waste.

  3. Restocks floor stock/automated dispensing cabinets. Checks for expired medications in the pharmacy and in the
    automated dispensing cabinets. Inventories and maintains stock levels of supplies and medications within the
    Pharmacy. Insures that all expired and damaged medications are disposed of in accordance with RCRA, OSHA and
    NIOSH regulations.

  4. Delivers IV medications to the appropriate location. Recycles IVs when appropriate.

  5. Enters charges and credits to patients for the medications sent on the daily IV delivery and cartfill to insure an
    accurate bill.

  6. Refills and exchanges code boxes and emergency medications to nursing units and ancillary areas. Monitors
    expiration dates of code boxes and emergency kits in the pharmacy.

  7. Repackages bulk supplies of medications into unit of use packages with an awarness of Admin/Prep precaution
    policies. Prepares compounds and oral solutions according to departmental procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma or GED required.

  2. License Mass Registered Pharmacy Tech required., or Registration Pharmacy Technician Trainee required., and Certificate 1 EXCPT required., or Certificate 2 Pharm Tech Cert Board required., and CPhT for EXCPT or PTCB is required within 60 days of hire.

  3. 0-1 years related work experience required.

  4. Pharmacy Technicians must be licensed with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy and certified through PTCB or EXCPT. Pharmacy Technicians in Training must become licensed with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy and become certified through PTCB or ExCPT within 60 days of hire.

  5. Employee must remain in good standing with the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Pharmacy including
    maintenance of registration and fees.

  6. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office
    applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Three to six months as a Pharmacy Technician in a hosptial or retail setting.

  2. Has the ability to perform simple and complex pharmaceutical calculations. Develops familiarity with medications:
    their generic and trade names, methods of administration, and conversion between metric and apothecary systems

  7. Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.


  8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.


Physical Nature of the Job:
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.
