Aon is looking for Sales-Focused Intellectual Property Insurance Broker

As part of an industry-leading team, you will help empower results for our clients by delivering innovative and effective solutions supporting Risk within our New Ventures Group, in Chicago, IL; New York, NY or San Francisco, CA. As a Sales-Focused Intellectual Property Insurance Broker, you will report directly to the Chief Broking Officer.

Aon's Intellectual Property Solutions team helps clients identify, protect, and maximize value from their most valuable assets in today's business world, their intellectual property. Over the last 40 years there has been a dramatic evolution from tangible to intangible assets as the primary component to business value. Aon has developed unique product offerings and solutions in the form of Collateral Protection Insurance, IP Liability Insurance, and Quality of Intellectual Property analysis to help companies maximize corporate value and reduce volatility connected with their intangible assets. We are looking for self-starting, enthusiastic, sales-oriented brokers to help clients understand the value of this new asset class and how our solutions can benefit their organizations.

As part of an industry-leading team, the Sales-Oriented IP Insurance Broker will help identify and guide our prospects through the full sales & broking process, working closely with IP Solutions colleagues as well as producers and account executives in Aon more broadly. Significant travel will likely be required; post-pandemic, once travel restrictions are lifted.

Aon's Intellectual Property Solutions team is part of our New Ventures Group (NVG), which accelerates innovation on behalf of clients and expands Aon's addressable market. NVG brings the power of Aon's enterprise skills, assets, and relationships to rapidly scale Aon's most significant growth stage opportunities. As an IP Solutions Team member, you will be a key part of this process.

Your impact as a Sales-Focused Intellectual Property Insurance Broker

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for originating new Intellectual Property broking business to Aon.

  • Primary focus will be around sourcing, negotiating, placing, and cross-selling to IP-rich companies in need of capital that can be secured by IP.

  • Identifies, develops, and cultivates prospects for Aon Intellectual Property Solutions and positions Aon to win the work.

  • Responsible for building relationships with key centers of influence, such as investment bankers, venture capitalists, private equity, and transactional attorneys.

  • Sells complex services/solutions and may be selling to a C-Suite level at prospects with an emphasis on selling Aon's Intellectual Property solutions.

  • Leads team selling efforts internally and in coordination with the prospects' internal teams.

  • Leads cooperative effort among members of a project team to deliver results.

  • Frequently interacts with senior level colleagues and prospects, frequently involving matters between different departments, other company divisions or units.

  • Works on complex issues, where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current trends.

  • Together with other Aon subject matter experts, uncovers and identifies prospect needs, primary goals, and corporate and departmental objectives.

  • Likely responsible for planning, scheduling, resourcing, and executing large projects/ programs.

  • Influences outcomes beyond the scope of their individual function.

You Bring Knowledge and Expertise

Required Experience:

  • Ideal candidate will possess 5+ years of experience in selling insurance and/or financial products and/or a proven track record of building business relationships and selling to a variety of senior executives.

  • Demonstrated capability to adhere to and champion the entire sales process.

  • Able to operate in an independent fashion without continual oversight.

  • Demonstrated ability to put team interests above personal outcome.

  • Proven ability to lead processes and people without direct authority.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

  • Active P&C license or willingness to obtain.

Preferred Experience:

  • Strong network in background in the Venture Tech Startup and VC community is a plus.

  • Experience and in-depth knowledge of the insurance industry is a plus.

  • Experience and in-depth knowledge of Intellectual Property is a plus.


  • Bachelor's degree is required.
