The Speech Therapist - Coordinator (Per Diem) supervises subordinate staff members. Identifies needs in program planning and facilitates program development. Provides speech and hearing therapy services.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Speech Therapist - Coordinator (Per Diem) at Hackensack MeridianHealth includes:

    Performs speech.language, voice, fluency, cognition and swallowingassessment and evaluations on a daily basis, on-going reassessmentand administers speech/ language and swallowing treatments topatients as requested by physicians. Some direct exposure toblood/body fluid from patients, but risk is minimal when propersafety precautions are observed. Regularly updates knowledge oftechniques and regulations appropriate to the ages of patients served.Communicates clearly and tactfully with patients.
  • Implements treatment program for disorders of speech, languageand swallowing.

  • Provides specialized information to staff, patient's family inresolving problems affecting speech, language and swallowing.Communicates clearly and tactfully with patients.

  • Uses, on a daily basis, multidisciplinary approach in executingpatient treatment. Coordinate with physician, Social Services/Discharge Planning to provide for continuation of treatment upondischarge.

  • Develop and maintain Policies & Procedures pertinent to speech/language.

  • Develop and maintain Quality Assurance/Improvement program inspeech/language section.

  • Ensures delivery of excellent customer service resulting in positiveand improving patient satisfaction scores for department andMedical Center.

Supplemental Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Prepares and submits schedule for speech/language therapy toDirector or his designee.

  • Keeps Director informed of progress and problems.

  • Attends hospital and department educational inservices as required.

  • Performs educational inservices to Hospital staff as required.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:


  • Master's degree in Speech Pathology.

  • Certificate of clinical competence (CCC) in Speech Pathology.

  • A current NJ State license.

Work Experience:

  • Three years or more experience in practice of speech therapy in a Hospital setting.
