Department Description: We are looking to add a member to our research study team within the Cancer Research Institute at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. This research assistant will work within the Muranen lab and will work closely with one of the postdoctoral fellows on a project aiming to improve efficacies of chemotherapy treatments in pancreatic cancer. At the same time the candidate will help to support the day to day activities of the laboratory operations.

Successful candidate will hold a degree in natural sciences, meticulous organizational skills, attention to detail, strong work ethics, and ability to learn quickly. The ideal candidate has had previous experience working in a research environment and has an ability to work independently while also maintaining continuous communication between lab members of the research team.

Essential Responsibilities:

* Conducting cell tissue culture and basic laboratory techniques and experimentation as requested on a day-to-day basis
* Keeping written records of experiments and data organization
* Troubleshooting problems and developing solutions to technical problems of moderate to high scope using independent thinking, literature, and colleagues as resources to solve problems
* Managing general and function specific consumables inventory; including ordering and restocking supplies and determining re-order thresholds
* Overseeing lab safety and regulatory compliance, including tracking of chemicals and hazardous materials and enforcing PPE policy and lab safety rules
* Managing lab safety equipment and supplies
* Ability to manage priorities and function independently in a multidisciplinary laboratory environment.

Required Qualifications:


  1. Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or related scientific field required.

  2. 1-3 years related work experience required.

  3. Bachelor's degree and one year of experience or a Masters degree with requisite knowledge and skills.

  4. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

  4. Written Communications: Ability to read, and write in English in order to understand basic safety instructions and take direction from supervisors; communicate effectively with patients, families and other medical center staff; and respond to basic questions.


  5. Oral Communications: Ability to understand spoken English in order to follow basic safety instructions and take direction from supervisors; communicate effectively in basic English with patients, families and medical center staff in response to routine questions.


  6. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use them in routine situations. Specialized knowledge not required.


  7. Team Work: Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.


  8. Customer Service: Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.


Physical Nature of the Job:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
