Job Responsibilities

As a Data Engineer with Aon IP Solutions, you will join a dynamic team seeking to answer complex questions related to IP analysis, valuation, and risk modeling.We are seeking people passionate about software engineering around data projects. This specific role will focus on data pipeline building, data management, and data cleaning. The successful applicant will be a partner with the data scientists on the team to execute fully-realized data and prediction pipelines. The ideal candidate will have ample experience shipping software to external clients in cloud environments in a secure and scaleable way, all within a larger IT infrastructure. The candidate must be proficient with Python and its major packages including Pandas. The candidate must be a software engineer first and a programmer/coder second. Candidates will be asked to write a code sample and that sample should be well commented, cleanly written, and maintainable as a priority over cleaver or optimized. The idea candidate just got excited reading that last sentence and will be excited to work in a team where software quality matters.

You Bring Knowledge and Expertise

Required Skills and Experience

3 or more years of experience in an external-client-facing software development team having shipped at least one major product release as a coding member of the team.

  • Experience building data pipelines that are self-monitoring and resilient.

  • Experience owning a data store and delivery mechanism host in either Azure or AWS.

  • Experience with a relational database such as PostgreSQL including data design in a production environment

  • Continuous delivery and deployment platform experience

  • Data Architectural experience such as large-scale database design for complex data

  • Strong Git skills and ability to manage code trees, pull requests, code reviews, etc.

  • Python experience in a production environment (including Git)

  • Experience with data analysis and statistical packages (Pandas, NumPy)

  • ETL experience including data cleaning and preparation for modeling

  • Distributed processing experience a plus such as Elasticsearch, Amazon Web Services, PySpark, Hadoop

  • Ability to understand and communicate complex ideas effectively to technical and non-technical audiences

  • Ability to cooperate effectively with people at all levels in the organization

  • Impeccable standards of honesty and accuracy; high degree of self-motivation

  • Represent attributes of stewardship, humility, integrity, trust, and gratitude

  • Instill a can-do and collaborative culture that connects across teams and Aon

  • Be a role model who develops others by providing timely feedback and coaching


  • Undergraduate degree with significant computer science and data engineering coursework

  • Graduates from non-traditional paths (bootcamps, alternative degrees) encouraged to apply with demonstrated professional experience in software engineering in large teams

  • Scrum/agile certification a plus.
