Position Summary:

The Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL) is a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Laboratory located at the William J. Hughes Technical Center, Atlantic City International Airport, NJ, and is a part of the Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) of DHS.

The System Administrator provides Information Technology and Information Control Support at the TSL Information Control Center (ICC).

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Support the implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of IT systems. Manage all IT system infrastructure and any processes related to these systems. Provide support to IT systems including: day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem resolution for all of the client problems.


• Provide second level problem identification, diagnosis and resolution of problems. Provide support for the dispatch system and hardware problems and remain involved in the resolution process. Provide support for the escalation and communication of status to agency management and internal customers.


• Support, Troubleshoot and maintain System/software life-cycle to include development and maintenance of systems, applications and tools including software enhancements, databases, database maintenance, Computer Aided Design (CAD), Graphics, Test and Evaluation, Training systems maintenance, maintenance and use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and keep and maintain information systems security.


• Provide hardware life-cycle support to include hardware installations such as modems, boards, memory chips, and other small hardware items.


• Write, update and maintain standard operating procedures that details the steps required to regain Local Area Network access in the event of network failure. The SOP should be sufficiently detailed to that if the usual network administrator or designee is not available, the federal staff may restore network services. The SOP shall be treated as Security Sensitive Information and distribution shall be controlled and restricted.


• Maintain software tools and utility development to include providing unique capability working with off the shelf applications such as Excel, Access, PowerPoint and other DHS applications. Databases, briefings, spreadsheets and documents shall be developed from these applications to provide information and information management tools. This includes the Local Area Network (LAN) and Web administration, Application Training, electronic and paper File Management, and Documentation of ICC System and procedures.


• Provide maintenance of TSL local IT Systems & equipment and support connectivity and troubleshooting functions related to TSL headquarters mandates

Minimum Qualifications / Requirements:

• Secret security clearance


• 3+ years relevant experience


• Associate's Degree in a science, technology, engineering, or math discipline or an additional 2 years of relevant experience


• Must possess experience in one or more systems and architectures and associated hardware: mainframe, mini, or client/server based


• Background at S&T or TSA, ideally Transportation Security Lab in NJ - PREFERRED

• Bachelor's degree
