Director, Origination at Liberty Utilities (Canada) Corp in Sedalia, Missouri

Purpose


Working as part of the Business Development team, the Director, Origination will be a key team member in moving the company's growth strategy forward, with a focus on originating and developing commercial, industrial and other customer relationships resulting in long-term renewable energy sales and development partnerships for Liberty's portfolio of new renewable facilities.


Accountabilities



  • Using knowledge of markets, customers, and economic drivers to effectively target regions, companies and market segments in which to seek new customer partnerships and long term revenue agreements.

  • Ensure the company has a good understanding of current customer and market conditions and trends, has an effective presence in the C&I marketplace, and is able to respond effectively and in a timely manner to RFP's as well as pursuing other offtake opportunities.

  • Maintain a network of C&I customers, marketers, brokers and consultants that Liberty is able to leverage in securing new long term agreements, and keeping up to date records of these activities in the CRM system.

  • Act as Liberty's ambassador to the RE100 and with C&I customers generally at industry events, conferences and forums.

  • Brings in-depth understanding of complex commercial arrangements, terms and structures (including ISDA agreements), and knows prevailing and standard market approaches applicable to offtake contracts.

  • Coordinate contract reviews with development, legal, credit, risk, operations and compliance and regulatory.

  • In collaboration with the Business Development leadership team, hone and improve Liberty's long term Greenfield and M&A thesis.

  • Work with developers to create value adding solutions for customers helping them to meet their ESG goals (both within North America and internationally) including incorporating renewable energy production, storage, and other technologies as appropriate.

  • Develop team members and direct reports (1-2), advancing their careers and making them increasingly competent and capable of originating and evaluating business opportunities.

  • Contribute to the overall leadership of the development division in areas such as strategy development, supporting corporate initiatives, people leadership and engagement

  • Seeking out and implementing ideas to continually improve the company's approach to origination activities.



Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's Degree within Engineering, Economics, Commerce or related fields.

  • MBA an asset.

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in power generation.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience negotiating non-standard commercial contracts.

  • Excellent external and internal relationship building skills with a focus on driving business results.

  • Commercial acumen and the ability to effectively evaluate and solve business challenges.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines.

  • Ability to prioritize conflicting deliverables.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset.
