Task Description:

Aircrew Survival Flight Equipment Technician I, WG-4818-09: This occupation includes jobs involved in disassembling, repairing, testing, troubleshooting, examining, fitting, modifying, maintaining, installing, and determining serviceability of aircraft survival and flight equipment such as helmets, torso harness assemblies, preservers, parachutes, life rafts, chemical and biological protective devices, survival kits, oxygen masks, and anti-G-suits. The work includes operational and circuit checks of emergency signaling and communication devices such as survival radios and beacons. The work requires knowledge of mechanical and electrical repair and maintenance procedures, pyrotechnic and explosive devices, and aircraft egress systems. In addition, the work requires familiarity with aircraft assigned to the unit, detailed knowledge of the operation and characteristics of aircraft survival and flight equipment, and the ability to demonstrate and explain proper usage and operation of the equipment.

Skill and Knowledge:  Shall have the ability to troubleshoot malfunctions in various Aircrew Survival systems and be able to perform general Organizational Level maintenance and possess one or more of the specialties of the assigned aircraft below:

 

Aircrew Survival Flight Equipment (ASFE) and Aviation Life Support Equipment

 

Responsibility:   Performs requirements in accordance with the procedures established in the PWS. Specifically performs preventative maintenance on assigned T/M/S aircraft ALSS assigned to the activity IAW T/M/S Maintenance Requirements Cards (MRC's) and approved directives. May perform services involving A&E material handling and shall have explosive handling personnel qualifications and certifications (QUAL/CERT) required IAW OPNAVINST 8023.24 when performing these duties. Performs diagnosis and corrective actions, disassembles, inspects, evaluates, and accomplishes necessary repairs, lays out work according to technical instructions and technical directives.  Determines what repairs, modifications, and part replacements are required. May be required to verify work performed by another for which he/she is qualified to perform.

 

Task Requirements:


  • Troubleshoots malfunctions on Aircrew Survival Flight Equipment.

  • Performs “O” Level maintenance procedures on pyrotechnic and explosive devices, and aircraft egress systems.

  • Read and interpret manufacturers' maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.

  • Performs phase, scheduled, unscheduled, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections.

  • Uses chemical sealants.


  • Requisitions repair parts, materials, and consumable supplies through military supply system.

  • Performs general housekeeping and FOD prevention duties.

  • Performs other tasks as directed.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Five (5) or more years’ experience as Aircrew Survival Flight Equipment Technician.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Aircrew Survival Equipmentmen (PR) “A” School or equivalent.

  • Personnel performing Aircrew Survival Equipment maintenance and QAR/CDQAR inspections shall be ordnance certified per OPNAVINST 8023.24/MCO 8023.3.

  • ALSS maintainers must meet the specific training and certification standards outlined in CNAFINST 4790.2 (series)

  • Three years ASFE maintenance experience

  • Must be able to work shift schedules as required per Performance Work Statement (PWS)

  • Must be able work work-week schedules i.e. M-F, Sn-Th or as required per PWS

  • Must be able to pass a background check

  • Must be able to obtain favorable National Agency Check with Written Inquires (NACI), IAW DTM-08-003 “Next Generation Common Access Card (CAC) Implementation Guidance or Secret security clearance as required for the position

  • Must be able to climb ladders, raised platforms, and aircraft

  • Must be able to use hand and power tools

  • Must have dexterity to handle small parts

  • Must be able to deploy to support off station exercises and perform other support duties if required

Employment is contingent on a) your ability to provide appropriate proof of your identity and eligibility to work in the United States; (b) your references and any background check being satisfactory to the Company; (c) you successfully passing a pre-employment drug test; and d) your ability to get a required clearance by your effective start date, if needed; and (e) KAI commencing performance on this contract.
