JOB SUMMARY

Operates Wastewater Collection and Treatment System, Surface Irrigation and Disposal Facility

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Install, test, repair, replace, clean, and maintain pumps, valves, sewer lines, blowers, gauges, floats and flow meters.
  • Inspect manholes to locate stoppage.
  • Repair or replace broken pipe sections
  • Pack backfilled excavation, using air and gasoline tamper.
  • Tap mainline sewers to install sewer saddles.
  • Update sewer map and manhole charting.
  • Remove obstructions, such as coarse materials from bar-screen, to accelerate influent through initial screening process.
  • Adjust pipe valves to regulate flow velocity.
  • Control the flow of raw sewage through filtering, settling, aeration, and sludge digestion processes.
  • Maintain operations logs and records.
  • Collect sewage samples and conduct laboratory tests such as BOD, suspended solids, chlorine residual chlorides, dissolved flows, flow rates, detention times, weir overflow rates, chlorine and chemical dosage, loading rates, sludge volume, sludge, ratios, capacities, volumes, head pressures, and head losses and have the ability to affect the necessary adjustments and repairs.
  • Operate and maintain facility as outlined by the manufacturer of the equipment.
  • Perform laboratory analysis, QA/QC procedures and regulatory compliance.
Education and/or Experience:
  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in the operation of a water pollution control collection system.
Certificates & Licenses
  • Grade Two North Carolina Biological Water Pollution Control System Operator and a Grade Two Collection Systems and Spray Irrigation WPCS Operator
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
