Job Description:

Vertiv is hiring a Should Cost Manager in Delaware, Ohio to develop Should Cost methodologies with Vertiv by introducing a new software tool, training all relevant personnel, and developing the processes needed to enable the correct use for such a software tool. You will understand the correct cost of manufacturing a part and work to eliminate all unnecessary costs. You will be the designated point of contact managing all activities related to the introduction and operation of Should Cost & Design for Cost to Vertiv. You will work with the relevant Vertiv internal teams to develop Should Cost processes. You will be responsible for reporting status on (a) the implementation of the Should Cost tool and (b) all Should Cost projects. You will be responsible for Should Cost savings targets by identifying suitable projects and working these through to completion.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the introduction of a Should Cost methodologies and tools to Vertiv

  • Identify and organize Should Cost training to those requiring it within Vertiv

  • Become the Should Cost Subject Matter Expert (SME) within Vertiv

  • Initiate Should Cost workshops with all appropriate internal Vertiv departments to educate on Should Cost practices

  • Manage the databases of all parameters related to the manufacturing of Vertiv parts with SME in other business units and disciplines

  • Help the Procurement teams to use the Should Cost data to better negotiate with suppliers and develop strategies for year over year cost evaluations using the Tool on major components with continuous changes

  • In cooperation with Engineering, Operations, Finance and Procurement, identify suitable target parts where savings can be made

  • Understand the manufacturing technologies used

  • Own the Should Cost annual savings target and provide monthly updates to the target

  • Introduce Design for Cost methodologies by working closely with Engineering and other departments

  • Investigate and develop how Should Cost methods can be used to identify and justify Value Engineering projects

  • Understand Global market trends as it relates to the supply and manufacture of parts used within Vertiv products

  • Working with Procurement, use the price trends for critical materials to ensure that the Should Cost parameters are as accurate as possible

  • Identify other areas of business where Should Costing methods may be used

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5+ years of experience in Engineering, Supply Chain or a relevant technical position, preferably in the New Product Development for mechanical parts

  • Experienced in working within large matrixed teams and/or organizations

  • An understanding of the metal and plastic fabrication techniques, preferably with experience with the cost structures related to these

  • Experience in introducing new processes to an existing organization

  • Experienced in leading cross-functional teams and project management across multiple departments

  • Proven problem-solving abilities

  • Experience in managing people, directly or dotted-line

  • Excellent inter-personal skills, and the ability to influence work collogues at all levels

  • Clear understanding of Supply Chain and Procurement processes and strategy with an understanding of Vertiv's market place

  • Ability to build forward-thinking partnerships with suppliers

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritization, communication, etc..., and willing to work in different time zones (as required)

  • Willing to travel to other Vertiv locations globally (as required)

  • Ability to drive and accept change, continuous improvement processes

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree with preference towards Engineering, Supply Chain Operations

  • Preferred: PMP, CPSM
