ENGINEERING PRACTICE

Michael Baker International's civil engineering professionals manage and staff active projects in over 40 countries on five continents. Services are provided for a broad range of projects and capabilities, including highways, airports, bridges, rail and transit systems, government and commercial facilities, water and wastewater infrastructure, oil and gas infrastructure, and commercial/urban development. Our fields of expertise span all areas of civil engineering and include an extensive variety of specialty disciplines, such as environmental compliance and restoration, coastal engineering, urban development, and mining.

DESCRIPTION

The Department Manager - Engineering / Public Works will be responsible for leading a team of engineers and designers in all aspects of design and plan preparation for street and public works improvement projects for Cities, Counties, and private clients in the Inland Empire particularly the Coachella Valley. In addition, the Palm Desert offices guides clients through the entire life cycle of land development projects, from due diligence, initial site planning, and entitlement approvals to final engineering, construction management and surveying. The Department Manager will be charged with development and implementation of a business strategy, overseeing the multi-disciplinary engineering group, and leading business development to win work and expand the Practice.

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Maintain existing client relationships, generate additional opportunities with existing clients, and develop new clients.
  • Determine direction and lead market awareness including involvement in professional associations, technical articles, conferences and boards
  • Lead business development for the practice (pursuits, client engagement, revenue growth)
  • Oversight and management of Engineering's project portfolio, client engagement, and growth strategies.
  • Participate in ongoing strategic positioning for major project opportunities
  • Oversee delivery of projects per agreed to plan, budget, program and quality
  • Lead, assign, and review work of the project delivery team
  • Serve as Project Manager for street and/or public works projects
  • Staff oversight, mentorship, and development
  • Development and oversight of budgets and schedules

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10 to 15 years of Public Works experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required
  • Certified Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of California (or the ability to obtain quickly) is required
  • Knowledge of regulatory issues and key players in the Inland Empire transportation market is required Experience with overseeing a diversity of successful projects for and with City and County agencies is required
  • Strong relationships with San Bernardino and Riverside City and County agencies are required
  • Strong presentation and proposal writing skills are required
  • Strong engineering judgment with a background in Public Works is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, public speaking ability, and problem-solving skills are required
