The Environmental Staff Chemist performs moderate to difficult chemical analyses using both wet chemical and instrumental techniques. Proven expert on ICP-MS, ICP-OES, or ion chromatography and proficient with the use of 2-3 other major instruments.
Considered expert with the operation of the ICP, ICP/MS, ion chromatograph, and Seal discrete analyzer.
Serve as primary expert on water testing and analysis protocol.
Coordinate all environmental sample analyses sent to outside laboratories.
Maintain all records and procedures that pertain to environmental sampling and analysis.
Actively participate on the CHEM Lab quality team.
Maintain certification status of the CHEM Lab with the Wisconsin DNR and Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection.
Coordinate and oversee NSF 61 faucet testing.
Mentors less-experienced chemists in the operation and troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation and the understanding of regulated methods.
Keep informed on latest changes to regulatory methods, NR 149, and Kohler Co. permits.
Lead procedure improvement/development efforts.
Able to read and understand Standard Methods and EPA Methods with the ability to put testing protocol into practice.
Lead customer meetings with engineers and production personnel.
Lead evaluation process and purchase of new instrumentation.
Write and revise analytical procedures, as needed.
A Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry with a minimum of 8-12 years of relevant laboratory experience or a Master of Science degree in chemistry.
6-10 years of relevant Environmental laboratory experience.
Supervisory or mentoring experience is preferred.
