Managing a team of 2-3 staff accountants, the Manager, State Income Tax and Compliance will be responsible to prepare, review, and research state and local tax accounting and compliance for all GameStop and affiliated business entities. The principal business responsibilities for this position are to maintain income tax filing compliance with both state and local governments and to accurately calculate the state and local impact on the global tax provision. This role will report directly to the VP, Global Tax. Changes in reporting lines change based on business needs and landscape which may or may not result in changes of direct manager.
Roles and Responsibilities
State Tax Provision
Prepares and manages the annual and quarterly state tax provision documentation, including managing the state income tax payable, updating uncertain state tax positions, and tracking state only deferred items.

Maintain fixed assets for Federal tax depreciation purposes.
Responsible for monitoring, assessing and implementation of accounting method changes.
Responsible for monitoring, assessing and implementation of new State and Local tax laws
Work closely with outside audit firm to review certain State tax returns and other matters
Research State and Local tax issues and prepare monthly tax issues memos, as applicable.
Review quarterly tax account reconciliations
Provides input on company tax accounting policies and calendars and ensures adherence thereto through internal and external relationships.
Proactively partner with stakeholders within GameStop and externally
State/Local Tax Compliance
Prepare/review and file all periodic US State and local income and franchise tax returns, tax estimates, and extensions
Maintain Cash Forecasts for related tax compliance payments and receipts
Point of contact for queries and general correspondence with States and Local offices, and managing overall relationship
State/Local Tax Planning
Responsible for monitoring and understanding forecasted Taxable Income /Loss and implications of changes in forecast to tax deliverables
Participate in domestic legal entity rationalization initiatives to ensure relevancy and optimal tax outcome
Responsible for managing domestic transfer-pricing studies and liaising with business and vendors to achieve best outcome for GameStop
State Tax Audits
Manages state and local income tax audits and controversies, including meeting with tax advisors and governmental officials, developing strategies, and preparing documentation.
Tax Process and System Improvements
Work closely with Federal Income Tax function and International Tax function to achieve joint Tax goals
Manage tax vendors and responsibility for timely submission of month-end accruals
Responsibility to identify opportunities to improve processes and optimize tax systems and automation tools
Participate in the design and implementation of the company's upcoming ERP implementation of Microsoft DC 365 and related systems for State and Local tax provision and compliance needs
Required Skills and Experience
Accredited bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field
8+ years of US State and local primarily and federal corporate income tax experience secondary required, some of which must be in Big 4 Tax function working on US States/local practice and some in private industry managing US state tax function
Proficient knowledge of ASC 740 and SOX requirements.
Experience with research, analysis, and interpretation of state and local income tax laws.
Direct experience in identifying relevant State and Local tax issues and ability to determine their potential impact to GameStop
Experience in people managerial skills and ability to coach and guide team members effectively
Expert project planning skills, including the ability to organize, prioritize and control job responsibilities to meet deadlines in an environment with overlapping and competing priorities
Proficient knowledge of tax provision software including OneSource and Hyperion Tax Provision modules is a must
Proficient quantitative analysis skills, including the ability to interpret, analyze, organize and report financial data.
Preferred Skills and Experience
Experience in global, publicly traded organizations
CPA, MBA, MS Taxation strongly desired
Retail or US based multinational corporation experience
