Job Description

The AI/ML Software Engineer will be based in Milpitas, California. We are seeking an adaptable, creative Machine Learning/AI Engineer for a position on the Flex Corporate Innovation engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing software system design and applications engineering team.  You will provide subject-matter expertise in AI/ML design as part of a team developing innovative robotics, vision, smart human interfaces, and audio products. You will work on cutting edge products to design and implement innovative and cost-effective, manufacturable product solutions of complex scope in order to support the organization from early prototype development.  You will have the opportunity to develop professionally within a small team and communicate your achievements with the broader Flex organization and mentor junior engineers.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do:


  • Design, implement and optimize data processing and AI/ML model using mainstream AI frameworks

  • Prototype AI/ML-based solutions by performing training, validation, and testing

  • Design develop deep Learning models like CNN, RNN, and NLP (BERT) for solving various business use cases for, radar, vision, and audio systems like presence, small object, and voice pattern detection.

  • Research and develop new algorithms such as video stream object detection and tracking, radar gesture recognition, environment noise cancellation, dynamic audio filters and targeting edge devices.

  • Design state-of-the-art sensor systems & human-machine interfaces for a variety of products ranging from smart devices, robotics and advance audio systems.

  • Mentor other developers and researchers.

  • Collaborate closely with team members of various department in the Innovation Center to deliver proof of concept

  • Maintain rigorous software writing practices, including documentation and versioning

  • Collaborate with product teams to deliver core AI model APIs

  • Maintain up to date knowledge and skill about AI technologies and related software tools

  • Should be comfortable working on open-ended problems that require sustained effort to both specify and solve.

  • A multi-disciplinary AI/ML skill set is a must. Familiarity and knowledge of edge-based ML accelerators is highly desirable

Here is some of what you’ll need (required):


  • MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent with minimum 3 years of experience in AI/ML algorithm, model development, and deployment on edge compute devices.

  • Excellent familiarity with OpenCV and libraries such as Numpy, Scipy, PyTorch, and DL frameworks like TensorFlow, Keras, and MLOps.

  • Deep understanding of vision and audio processing with AI/ML.

  • Experience implementing algorithms in Object detection and tracking (ex: MobileNetSSD, KCF tracker), noise cancellation, or NLP.

  • Experience in Computer Vision; Pattern Recognition; Predictive Modeling and Decision Support; Reduced Order Modeling.

  • Familiarity with audio-based AI/ML techniques

  • Some familiarity with cognitive agents (intelligent bots).

  • General knowledge of edge compute requirements and SoCs targeting edge inferencing.

  • A strong commitment to writing robust, high-quality code using C++ and Python.

  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and deliver product quality results

  • Familiarity with machine learning accelerators from SoC vendors is desirable.

  • Some experience in targeting CNN and RNN models for embedded SoCs.

  • A good understanding of inference in real-time systems.

  • Display solid interpersonal skills including strong written and verbal communication capabilities, both locally and with remote design teams
