Garmin is seeking a full-time Lead User Experience Designer to join the Device Interaction team at our headquarters in the greater Kansas City area. The Device Interaction team’s mission is to provide mobile and web applications and services that are easy to use and maximize the full interaction potential of all Garmin products.  Garmin has a passionate, devoted group of customers that use our products to pursue their fitness and wellness goals. Our team has the privilege of helping these customers with seamless device interactions that just work. 

As a Lead UX Designer, you will work primarily on Garmin Connect, the fitness and wellness application that millions of Garmin customers rely on.  This person will be responsible for developing features for part of our outdoor product line.  If you want to blend your passion of fitness and UX Design, this may be the role for you.  As part of your day-to-day responsibilities, you will be involved in every aspect of the feature development process, from wireframing the next great product innovation to tweaking pixels right before launch. You will be expected to utilize your full range of user experience design, interaction design and visual design skills. A strong ability to collaborate with others is also a must. You’ll work closely with associates from various departments to research, prototype, design, present and create highly usable interaction solutions.

Essential functions include: 


  • Contribute significant leadership to projects/programs which contribute directly to achievement of organizational objectives

  • May lead a major research or design project consisting of multiple sub-projects

  • Create research protocols to be carried out by others

  • Provide direction to other designers for defining new product behaviors

  • Review and provide feedback on all designs for a particular product type

  • Demonstrates full use of design standards and procedures

  • Demonstrates proficient use and knowledge of UX/UI tools

  • Applies Garmin’s Mission Statement and Quality Policy and exhibits enthusiasm for and a desire to see Garmin succeed

  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency, commitment, and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion

  • Demonstrates ability to complete well defined moderately complex tasks and/or projects

Bachelors Degree in Interactive Design, Human Factors, Visual Design or a Degree with an equivalent curriculum that teaches user centered design principles AND a minimum of 10 years work experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description.


  • Proficient knowledge of usability principles

  • Proficient abilities implementing a design thinking process

  • Proficient knowledge of design principles

  • Proficient knowledge of user interface design principles

  • Proficient abilities designing screens and user interfaces

  • Exceptional presentation skills
