Job Description:

Arcadis seeks a Principal Resident Engineer to join our team in the New Jersey/New York City area for upcoming opportunities. Our ideal candidates has knowledge in various transit sector construction activities including foundations, platforms, drainage, waterproofing systems, fire detection and protection systems, and new HVAC systems. In this role you will monitor and inspect all construction activities performed by the Contractor.

The Principal Resident Engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Assist in Preparing Project Plans, and Work Plans. Evaluate and prepare recommendations regarding sequence of construction activities, and the proper means and methods of construction when working in a railroad environment.
• Assist in the management of overall scope and schedule, and quality while monitoring and reviewing the construction schedule.
• Execute quality controls such as controlling the work scope, evaluating the schedules, and ensuring that the work is performed in accordance with FRA/FTA and OSHA safety practices and contract documents.
• Maintain on a daily basis all as-built work on a record set of drawings.
• Maintain records of progress of work and percent (%) complete to compare against Contractor monthly progress invoices.
• Validate and monitor Third Party Contractor invoices for payment in accordance with progress of work.
• Prepare and maintain for PM's signature Daily Reports recording all details of daily construction activities including daily site photographs.
• Coordinate Third Party Contractors to ensure that the project look-ahead schedules and work plans are properly integrated.
• Review design and shop drawings. Assist PM in coordinating reviews as required.
• Perform field inspections and daily monitoring of construction to ensure compliance with Contract Documents, approved work plans, shop drawings, staging plans, project safety and quality plans, and Maintenance and Protection of Traffic plans. Ensure compliance with any permits.
• Attend progress status meetings with Contractor, Design Consultant, clients; assist PM in preparation of progress meeting notes and agendas.
• Monitor, review and inspect field tests and procedures. Monitor and maintain test data logs.
• Facilitate resolution of Contractor RFIs with design consultant and Railroad.
• Assist PM in investigating Change Requests including design recommendations and resolution of proposed changes. Monitor T&M work in field and review daily T&M records.
• Review design and shop drawings, coordinate reviews and arrange meetings as required with the Program Management Team and other railroad involved departments/divisions.
• Generate periodic reports on behalf of clients on the Project Status.
• Attend progress status meetings with Design Consultant, Third Party Contractor and clients. Prepare meeting notes for client Project Manager's review.

• A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a related field.
• A minimum of 15 years' experience in managing design and construction of major transit projects including Line Structures and Stations.

Preferred Qualifications :

• NJ or NY Professional Engineer (PE) License
• Experience of working on two or more Design-Build projects
• Knowledge of local transit agency organizations and operations
• Certified PMP (Project Management Professional) or CCM (Certified Construction Manager) designation.
• Experience in managing project work scope, budgets, and schedules.
• Proficient in the use of personal computer and office software, such as Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
• Valid NY or NJ driver license.
