Primary Objective: In broad terms, briefly state the major purpose of primary objective of this position.
  • Responsibilities include fitting and joining, fabricating, and repairing metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques, in accordance with specifications and production schedules.
  • Also performs in a General Maintenance II capacity supporting general maintenance, service, and repairs to equipment and machinery as needed.
Major Function and Scope: Using brief narrative statements, describe each major function of responsibility explaining the scope of the function as appropriate.
  • Perform welding duties using a wire welder, producing strong, clean welds. Testing to ensure strength and tolerance of welds.
  • Weld steel components with welding equipment as specified by layouts, engineering drawings, work orders, or verbal instructions.
  • Work includes set-up, laying out work using jigs/fixtures or hand layouts to fabricate parts and/or rework finished products.
  • Work with fitters or fitters/welders to assist in the fabrication or welding of multi-component parts.
  • Operate forklifts, hoists, hand power tools, slings, grinders, cutting torch, and other hand tools related to the jobs needs.
  • Inspect and correct welds as necessary to meet product specifications.
  • Read, understand, and follow job order specifications, Engineering drawings, and/or work orders.
  • Willingness to cross-train and perform the work of other job tasks in addition to the primary assigned position.
  • Inspect equipment to maintain functional equipment if any equipment needs repairs notify supervisor/lead or maintenance department.
  • Assists other employees, leads, management, vendors, or contractors to trouble shoot and diagnose equipment in urgent need of repair.
  • Perform a variety of complicated tasks, as required.
  • Ensures compliance to all company and regulatory safety and environmental guidelines and practices to include wearing the appropriate safety garments, using the appropriate tools and equipment, and exercising the required safety behaviors for the task at hand.

Type of Experience and Knowledge:
Knowledge, Experience, Competencies and Supervision: Describe the education, knowledge required, years of experience, specific skills and abilities required to do the job on a fully competent basis.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Up to two - four years welding experience or related field.
  • Tape Measurement and Blueprint reading skills a must.
  • Aluminum welding and heavy equipment manufacturing experience a plus.
Competencies: Describe the specific skills required for this position in terms of technical, managerial, interpersonal skills and unique abilities.
  • Familiar with a variety of welder concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to understand welding symbols and diagrams, read blueprints, and/or other printed instructional material in the welding of products or parts.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with welding equipment such as torches, torch tips, filler rods, flux, hoses, valves, and gas cylinders.
  • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Demonstrate willingness and ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Positive, willingness to learn and participate in a changing environment to reach a common goal; not to exceed one written warning.
