Design from concept to completion machine controls and PLC programming. The Automation Engineer helps shape the future for automated handling for molded parts and product assembly! The individual is a hands-on problem solver and self-starter who takes pride in and has a successful track-record of designing, building and implementing automated assembly systems. The Engineer is involved in all the phases of the projects including initial planning, detailed design, construction, commissioning and release. This position requires the ability to write PLC programs for equipment. The ability to troubleshoot equipment is a must. Basic hand tools are required for this position.

Essential Functions
  • Creates automation and machine design requirements
  • Actively participates in design review, machine wiring, programming, sourcing and deployment on the manufacturing floor
  • Coordinates internal/external resources with Gantt charts to deliver projects on time within scope
  • Designs PLC/HMI/Robotics (programming & creation of technical documents such as IO map, user requirements, functional specifications, detailed design specifications)
  • Support of electrical project execution including controls engineering, robot programming, PLC and HMI programming.
  • Creates automation and machine design requirements including 3D drawing design, wiring, programming, safety features, and sourcing
  • Details control schemes with wiring and system drawings for automation projects
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies and proactively recommends revisions and/or improvement
  • Engages in project planning to identify automation opportunities
  • Prepares cost estimates and written technical proposals
  • Generates network communication protocols for various control equipment
  • Develops mechanical/electronic controls integrating assembly stations, 6 axis handling devices and conveyance devices.
  • Conducts time studies and line balancing
  • Generates appropriate documentation during each phase of the project: project scope, BOM, Gantt charts, work instructions
  • Improves standards for assembly by working with process, tooling, design and quality engineers to promote defect-free processes.
  • Interacts cross functionally from concept through test runs through the released manufacturing process
  • Improve tools & technologies used by the organization to maintain accurate quality, including writing specialized testing tools.
  • Create, execute and troubleshoot automated test scenarios..
  • Project/capital project management experience (concept, feasibility, cost estimating, justification, implementation, audit).
  • Identify required improvements in the development processes; make contributions to automation tools that address specific needs.
  • Prepare and present process improvement plans and coordinate deployment including training of team members.
  • Site support of system startup.
  • Ability to successfully execute multiple project responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Participation in the development, construction and installation of custom equipment builds.
  • Identify areas for automation improvements, or new automation, and then working with a mechanical designer to create, design, justify, fabricate, program, test, debug, install and commission your solution.
  • Support maintenance and operations with PLC and electronic issues when needed
  • Monitor and support live-time manufacturing data acquisition systems, including creation of customer dashboards
  • Interface with corporate IT when projects require, and provide on-site assistance when needed
  • Must be hands on and capable to running wiring, building control cabinets, HMI (Human Machine Interface) panels, light mechanical fabrication
  • Knowledge of robotics and EOAT (END of Arm Tooling), including collaborative applications, is a plus.
  • Travel to other sites minimal
  • Perform other duties as required Education and Experience
  • Engineering degree or equivalent Experience
  • 5-10 years manufacturing environment
  • 5-10 years of technical experience required
  • Knowledge of electrical, PLC programming & industrial networks, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and/or electronic equipment and systems required. OMROM expertise is a plus.

Certifications and Special Requirements
  • Computer Skills
  • Microsoft Office

Required Education and Experience
  • Five to Ten years in manufacturing environment and technical experience required
  • Knowledge of electrical, PLC programming & industrial networks, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and/or electronic equipment and systems required. OMROM expertise is a plus.
