What you will do

As the Regional EHS Director you will be responsible for managing and optimizing the safety operations of multi-site facilities and will have a demonstrated knowledge of applicable environmental, health and safety regulations & demonstrated success in managing multi site manufacturing & distribution locations in North America. You will act as a change agent to implement across North America to achieve our vision of Zero Harm. Reporting to the VP Manufacturing Operations – North America & EHS Leader for Global Products.

How you will do it


  • You will drive EHS systems and programs across 15+ manufacturing facilities and 10+ distribution & engineering facilities throughout North America.  

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to environmental, health and safety, representing the company in all contact with regulatory agencies.

  • Plan, implement and manage safety/environmental policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.

  • Plan, implement and manage programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, for example, but not limited to fire prevention, lockout/tagout, fall protection and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials.

  • Prepare studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.

  • Inspect organization facility to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.

  • Lead the timely investigation of accidents, injuries and near misses; cooperate in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use. 

  • Compile and submit accident and/or environmental reports required by corporation and regulatory agencies.

  • Participate in safety/environmental audits at throughout the year.  Lead risk assessment updates and audits within Region

  • Review and comment on site Environmental operating permits (Air, Water, Waste)

  • Prepare, collate EHS data, input, update and maintain records as required

  • Ensure timely submittal, acquisition and maintenance of all environmental permits and reports to maintain compliance with state and federal requirements; Review and comment on site Environmental operating permits (Air, Water, Waste)

  • Lead the implementation and adherence to all company EHS policies and best practices in the region across manufacturing and distribution.

  • Ensure compliance to and continued certification with ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 and OSHAS 18001 or actively pursue gaining certification to these management system standards if applicable.

  • Achieve the EHS KPIs set for region pertaining to Occupational Health & Safety programs and Sustainability programs & drive proactive Significant Incident & Fatality Prevention (SIF)  programs across the region.

  • Lead the development of Standard Operating Procedures to include relevant safety precautions

  • Update Management on changes to National or international EHS procedures and policies and ensure compliance

  • Serve as EHS Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Johnson Controls Manufacturing System (JCMS)

What we look for

Required


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field of study (Environmental or Safety). 

  • 10 to 15 years of progressive experience in manufacturing with demonstrated knowledge of applicable environmental, health and safety regulations; Proficient experience with OSHA and EPA

  • Multi-site management experience with experience in Lean Six Sigma methodology

  • Must possess leadership, presentation and training skills, organization and planning abilities.  Proficient in Microsoft Suite Applications (Word, Excel, Access, TEAMS and PowerPoint) as well as Internet software and E-mail is required. Including proficiency with ProcessMap EHS data software.

  • Travel up to 40% required

  • Must have strong analytical skills to determine root cause analysis and resolve operational failures and set corrective action/course.

  • Must be a driver of EHS requirements and capable of coordinating the design, build, and implementation of Safety Behavior & Culture programs.

  • Ability to work as both an individual contributor and as a facilitator for work teams and be able to provide hands-on training and coaching of others as an important component of the job.

  • Must have demonstrated success in managing systems and processes, action oriented and demonstrate energy for things seen as challenging.

  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred


  • EHS certification (ASP, CSP, PE and/or CHMM)

  • Bilingual (English/ Spanish)
