Job Description:

Overview: Cigna's Government Business Segment (GBS), and particularly the Medicare Advantage (MA) business, is a key driver of the company's overall growth objectives. Analytics is a critical enabler of MA growth, and the Customer and Growth Analytics team is leading efforts to develop more sophisticated tools and insights. The team partners closely with a range of business leaders, using data, modeling, and insights to inform a wide variety of decisions, including market expansion, product design, customer retention, marketing priorities, distribution partner strategy, network construction, and financial forecasting.

This position will lead a growing team of analysts, data scientists, and reporting experts to develop new tools and models and influence strategic decisions. The candidate will develop and execute on a multi-year roadmap of capabilities and partner with the MA Senior Leadership Team (SLT) on fostering a data-driven culture of decision-making. In particular, the candidate will advance a more granular understanding of customer economics, develop more sophisticated modeling to forecast customer retention, lifetime value, and purchasing behavior, provide insights that help Cigna match buyers to the right products, and create tools that improve the effectiveness of distribution and account management.

The right candidate will have a deep analytics background, familiarity with Medicare businesses, and experience partnering, leading and influencing across business units with all levels of leadership. The leader must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment, developing a strategy and operational plan to achieve strategic goals. The person in this role will have a good sense of the metrics and insights that are needed to make strategic decisions, a strong executive presence and demonstrate outstanding communication skills - specifically, have the ability to translate information/insights into a compelling plan that enables the business to make good business decisions quickly.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and execute a customer analytics strategic roadmap that outline analytics use-cases and product delivery. Consult and collaborate with market leadership, Finance, Marketing, Customer Experience, Sales and Strategy to identify business challenges and opportunities that can be addressed through consumer insights and analytical tools, working with analytical teams in translating business needs to approaches and solutions, and leading the implementation of the solution into the respective business area.

  • Support strategic decision-making (e.g. market expansion, new product development, cross-business initiatives, etc.) with data-driven customer insights (e.g., applying sub-segment performance analyses to prospective markets).
  • Hire and develop talent to continue building out a comprehensive MA Customer and Growth Analytics discipline.
  • Provide oversight of the development and production of a standardized reporting packages/tools, with a particular focus on customer sales, retention, and cohort economics
  • Lead the communication of results for both the standardized reporting packages/tools and ad-hoc in-depth analyses. Individual is expected to actively engage matrix partners to improve adoption of data/analytics in strategic decision making.
  • Lead next generation insights and analytics strategy. Identify new and cutting edge data sources, tools, models, etc. that can be integrated into the business to drive differentiated customer value.
  • Support insights and analytics collaboration opportunities across the Medicare segment, including Medicare Supplement and Prescription Drug Plan business.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • BS in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or related field

  • Proven track-record of leadership, vision setting, and strategic influence in a quantitative role

  • US health care experience required, prior Medicare experience strongly preferred

  • Strong financial acumen, including demonstrated ability to translate between financial modeling and business insights

  • Ability to think creatively and put structure around complex problems

  • Ability to clearly present findings to a diverse group of teams and leaders with varying levels of technical expertise

  • Strong customer focus and management of business partner expectations

  • Prior managerial experience strongly preferred

This position is not eligible to be performed in Colorado.
