Job Description:

The BioPharmaceuticals Business Unit (BBU) creates and executes meaningful therapeutic area and product strategies that are focused on addressing the unmet needs of patients around the world. The Regional Clinical Account Director (RCAD) has responsibility for developing, delivering and implementing the AstraZeneca clinical and health economic strategies for the AZ portfolio for Regional Intermediary Accounts and Regional Managed/FFS Medicaid accounts within a specific geographic territory. Experience in working across therapeutic areas is a key capability and prior experience in biologics and/or immunology is desirable.

Accountabilities include communicating clinical information, HECON information, economic modelling and other elements of the value proposition, in collaboration with internal counterparts for AZ products across the portfolio to key decision makers in targeted Regional Intermediary accounts (e.g. Regional health plans and PBMs) and Managed/FFS Medicaid accounts within a specific geographic territory. Significant to this role is collaboration with the Regional Account Directors, Brand Medical Directors, Value Strategy & Evidence Leaders, Payer Evidence Directors and other aligned partners for prioritized accounts as well as developing and leading implementation of medical strategy and tactics for assigned accounts.

The RCAD develops and maintains medical relationships with clinical leaders and decision makers through scientific exchange, scientific and business expertise, and developing and leading the implementation of capabilities to enhance Medical Affairs engagement of Managed Market clinical leaders. You will be collaborating and effectively communicating with Clinical Account Directors, and key internal stakeholders to ensure strategic alignment and effective communication of clinical strategy for National and Regional Accounts.

Accountabilities:

Engaging with clinical leaders to understand account priorities, identify opportunities, and appropriately delivering clinical and health economic information will ensure the enrichment of patient health. Developing and maintaining these relationships with key clinical leaders will be at the forefront of reaching regional goals. Appropriately using Medical and Market Access resources, the RCAD will present the value of AstraZeneca products to clinical leaders within payer accounts, while providing clinical differentiation of our products and addressing scientific questions related to these products and the relevant disease areas.

The RCAD ensures timely delivery of scientific, health economic and real-world evidence to fulfil account requests in collaboration with key internal partners (e.g. Value Strategy & Evidence and Payer Evidence teams). Delivering account support through use and integration of scientific expertise, payer knowledge and business resources as well as contributing to payer insight to AstraZeneca will enable the RCAD to communicate actionable information to Medical Affairs, Core Value Teams, Brand Teams and US Market Access teams. This will be achieved by demonstrating scientific and business expertise as you develop and lead the implementation of the clinical strategy for the AZ portfolio for Regional managed markets along with developing capabilities to enhance Medical engagement of Payer and Managed Market clinical leaders.

Essential Requirements:
  • Advanced Degree (MD, PharmD or PhD)
  • 5-7 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry in medical affairs or clinical development or commensurate experience
  • 5-7 years experience in the managed care setting
  • Strong understanding of US healthcare system, payers, reimbursement methods and integrated health systems
  • Experience in a field medical liaison role
  • Knowledge of clinical development/operations and working knowledge of FDA requirements
  • Expert technical depth in disease area and ability to develop expertise across multiple disease areas
  • Strong knowledge of health economics and capable of conducting value-based discussions with managed care decision-makers in various account settings

Preferred Requirements:
  • Additional training (residency or fellowship) Master's Degree (e.g., MBA, MHA or MPH)
  • >5 years of experience working in a field medical liaison role position
  • >10 years of experience in a managed care setting
  • >10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry in medical affairs, clinical development, or commensurate experience
  • Experience in working across therapeutic areas is a key capability and prior experience in biologics and/or Immunology and Oncology is desirable
  • Demonstrated flexibility in technical expertise across disease areas
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.)
  • Knowledge of information/technology systems
