SUMMARY

The Item Compliance Specialist is the subject matter expert on product compliance domestically and internationally. The Specialist utilizes their extensive knowledge to ensure Motion’s operations are compliant domestically and internationally for both import and export. They are responsible for regular maintenance of compliance product information within the (PIM) system. They create, maintain, and implement policies and procedures for the organization. Must be able to work in a collaborative environment and under general direction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to the following:

  • Exhibits extensive knowledge as related to Item Product Regulations: Prop 65, EU REACH, EU RoHS, Conflict Minerals, etc.
  • Read and interpret state, national and international regulations.
  • Perform regulatory reviews on new and existing regulated materials or products and determine the applicability of various regulations (such as chemical inventories, hazard communication, environmental, drug precursors, import/export, transportation classification, state restrictions) to the raw material or product.
  • Develop compliance procedures, policies and programs for new regulations of any scope.
  • Develop modifications to existing procedures, policies and programs based on changes to regulations.
  • Implements plans for new and modified compliance procedures, policies and programs, as needed.
  • Communicate regulatory requirements and product information to customers, vendors, sales reps, operations and other stakeholders.
  • Assist customers on complex compliance issues.
  • Creates and Maintains relevant information for the compliance of items within the PIM system
  • Assess the combination of product attributes and product application conditions and select, obtain and maintain appropriate product credentials and certifications or document product conformance to compliance criteria.
  • Perform product hazard classification based on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) requirements.
  • Knowledgeable of Hazmat Shipping Regulations and application.
  • Act as the MSDS Database administrator.
  • Complete, file, and maintain all required regulatory reports, applications and notifications.
  • Provide support for internal chemical hazard communication program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE

  • A 2 to 4-year degree in Physical or Environmental Science, Product Regulatory Compliance, Quality Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of compliance experience.
  • Ability to work independently on projects or within a larger team environment.
  • Strong verbal, written and technical communication skills to convey ideas across teams, departments, and external organizations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Capacity to be highly organized and manage several tasks at one point in time.
  • Mindset for Continuous Improvement.
  • Strong computing skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Prefers experience with data BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, etc.).
