Type: Full-Time

Job Description:

Nature Research is a flagship portfolio of journals, products and services including Nature and the Nature-branded journals, dedicated to serving the scientific community.

Associate or Senior Editor — Nature Aging

London, New York, Berlin

Closing date: March 24th 2021

Springer Nature, the publisher of Nature, is looking to recruit an Associate or Senior Editor for Nature Aging, a new journal that launched in 2021.

Nature Aging publishes aging research in its broadest sense, providing a home for significant advances in the natural, health and social sciences alike. The journal will bring together those seeking to understand the biology of aging and of the diseases of aging, with those translating this knowledge to address clinical questions in older adults with the aim of improving human lifespan and healthspan, and those addressing the socio-economic challenges and opportunities arising from our aging population.

The range of topics and disciplines to be covered includes (but is not limited to): molecular and cellular biology of aging, aging and stem cell biology, rejuvenation and tissue repair, physiology of aging and longevity, diseases of aging, gerontology, geriatrics, mental health and aging, clinical interventions, biomarker studies, epidemiology, public health and socio-economic aspects of aging.

We are now looking to recruit an Associate or Senior editor for the journal: this is an exciting opportunity to join the team that will help shape this new academic journal to present a fully cross-disciplinary picture of aging research. Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant discipline, and preferably postdoctoral experience, with a strong research record. Candidates with a background in clinical research, epidemiology or public health, and with formal training in biostatistics are strongly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidates will work closely with the Chief Editor and the rest of the editorial team on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and peer review, the commissioning and editing of comments, reviews and opinion articles, and also writing for the journal. Nature Aging is part of a dynamic editorial and publishing environment that also includes Nature, Nature Medicine, Nature Cancer and Nature Neuroscience.

This is an intellectually stimulating position. Broad scientific knowledge and training, excellent literary skills, the ability to absorb new areas of research, and a keen interest in the practice and communication of science are all required. Applicants should have excellent interpersonal skills. A key aspect of the job is liaising with the scientific community through laboratory visits and international conferences — willingness to travel, when appropriate, is essential.

The positions will be based in one of our international offices: in London, New York, or Berlin. Please state your preferred location in your application.

To apply, please send:

1. A cover letter telling us who you are and why you want to become a full-time Nature Aging editor. Please also mention your salary expectations.

2. A CV detailing your education, relevant employment history, list of published research papers, and any other achievements that you feel demonstrate your suitability for the position.

3. A Research Highlight (of around 250 words) in Nature style on a recent peer-reviewed research paper relevant to Nature Aging’s audience that has caught your attention. The paper you highlight should not be from your own (or previous) research group but should be on a topic that you find interesting (and may even wish to learn more about). The highlight should explain the significance and implications of the research to someone who is not a specialist in the subject.

Closing date for applications is March 24th 2021
