Who We Are Looking For: 

An experienced and motivated Electrical Engineer to join our electrical engineering group. The successful candidate will be joining an established, respected, and growing team providing a range of electrical engineering services to our practices across the firm. As an Electrical Engineer at Woodard & Curran you will work on electrical distribution, relaying, power generation, motor control, and lighting projects for our industrial, water, wastewater, municipal, design-build, and plant operations clients on a regional and national basis. You will interface with clients to understand their power, lighting, and motor control requirements for municipal, utility, and industrial facilities. You will also prepare and coordinate engineering reports, studies, calculations, drawings, and specifications. In addition, you will perform construction phase services such as shop drawing review and contractor oversight and will carry out QA/QC functions to ensure accuracy and adequacy of work products.  

Your work will come in varying degrees of complexity and although you will work independently on most projects, our experienced staff will be there to support you collaboratively as team. As an experienced engineer on our team, you will have opportunities to mentor junior staff, support marketing efforts and development of proposals, and provide strategic leadership internally to complete complex projects with diverse project teams. You will support our project managers with the technical delivery of projects or tasks within scope, schedule, and budget. You will lead project development and technical approach for proposals, develop fee estimates, and provide QA/QC functions to ensure accuracy of work products. This is an exciting opportunity where you will need the energy to go the extra mile to deliver electrical design solutions consistent with process, mechanical and control system requirements in a consulting environment.  Our diverse portfolio of projects means that you will need to be flexible for 20% - 30% travel in the New England area and nationwide.

This position level is flexible based on experience and qualifications of the candidate. Candidates with related electrical engineering experience ranging from 7+ years of experience are encouraged to apply for this position. Primary office location is flexible in the Southern New England area as is consideration for Virtual status within that same geography.  

What You Will Be Doing At Woodard & Curran:


  • Act as a technical lead for large sized projects, including having substantial interaction related to all technical tasks associated with the project.

  • Support Project Managers as technical lead and oversee completion of technical tasks to scope, schedule, and budget.

  • Support Project Managers by providing strategic advice and technical leadership on projects.

  • Responsible for overall technical content and quality of project deliverable.

  • Responsible for directing complex engineering work for clients.

  • Foster and maintain one-on-one relationships with key external clients.

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining external relationships with technical sub-consultants.

  • Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the project work of technical staff and works to meet completion date.

  • Leads discipline coordination on large, complex projects.


  • Performs or oversees QA/QC procedures (e.g., TATs, formal project reviews, etc.) for overall project.

  • Ensure that current design or technical guidelines and standards are in place.

  • Support Project Managers in lessons learned/technical debrief as part of the closeout of a project.


  • Recognized internally as a project technical delivery expert.

  • Provide significant skills leading to a competitive advantage for Woodard & Curran.

  • Participate in a local, regional, or national technical committee, or equivalent marketplace presence, as appropriate.

  • Author papers, presentations, or articles per year and/or participates in a leadership position in a professional society (or equivalent).

  • Identify need for, develop, and review new W&C efficiency/project delivery tools including Master Specifications, design spreadsheets, standard technical templates, and other design or technical guidelines.

  • Disseminate technical delivery information to project managers and staff via informational emails and other appropriate channels.


  • Develop, review, and/or evaluates proposals for area of expertise as well as lead development of technical understanding and approach on project proposals.

  • Participate in interviews for new projects.

  • Support Practice Leaders in pursuing opportunities for area of expertise.

  • Obtain training to maintain or stay ahead of industry practices or to expand areas of technical expertise.

  • Maintain professional licensure and continuing education requirements, as applicable.


  • May be responsible for providing feedback/guidance on staff development in technical area of expertise.

  • Identify technical gaps in our staff and assist in filling those gaps through both proactive recruiting and internal staff development.

  • Provide mentoring in area(s) of expertise to staff.

  • Conduct internal learning sessions (Roundtables, Project Profiles, training, etc), as appropriate.

What You Will Need To Succeed:


  • B.S. degree in applicable engineering or science field from an accredited college or university, M.S. degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 7 years of professional work experience (minimum 5 years with an M.S. degree) in a technical position or equivalent demonstrated competency.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) Registration in at least one state and willingness to apply for reciprocity in states where projects are located, as needed.

  • National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) record, as appropriate.

  • Membership in respective professional societies.

  • Strong attention to detail, analytical, and organization skills.

  • Superior writing, communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to interface with co-workers, project staff, various clients, and government agencies.

  • Demonstrated skills and abilities required to partner with a project manager to deliver a large, complex project.
