Job Description JOB SUMMARY: Accomplishes department objectives by managing staff; planning and evaluating department activities. Manages and performs all activities in the assigned areas with primary responsibility for care of the pets and the planning, organizing, and execution of the trials for the facility under minimal supervision. Participates in the daily operation of the kennel facility, conduction of trials and care of pets assigned to the area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Maintains staff by selecting, orienting and training employees.
Accomplished results through the staff by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring and evaluating performance results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
Establishes goals by gathering pertinent service and operations information/data, identifying and evaluating trends and options; choosing a course of action, defining objectives and evaluating outcomes.
Responsible for equipment and resource allocation; prioritization of projects and assignment of resources.
Insures equipment and resources are operating and maintained in proper working order
Acts as a "working supervisor" providing supervision, leadership and focus to the group by coordinating and organizing the work for the group
Responsible for appropriate care, use and welfare of pets in facility
Ensures appropriate exercise, socialization and grooming of dogs in designated areas through staff
Ensures compliance with the Animal Welfare Act in all aspects of operations in the kennel
Ensures compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) in the work area
Ensures compliance of group members with Company policies and procedures
Ensures accurate data collection and reporting for palatability trials
Ensures group members adhere to proper trial methodologies
Ensures safety in the work area making sure the team is accountable and environment and resources are appropriate
Travel as necessary
JOB QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, and Knowledge):
BS degree and a minimum of 2 years of people leader experience, an associate degree with 5 years of related people leader experience or high school degree with 8 or more years of experience. Experience in an animal research or care environment leading projects or teams preferred
Excellent organization skills
Knowledge of people leadership practices
Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Proficient in relevant software applications (Microsoft Office)
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS PREFERED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
Knowledge of all government requirements for Good Laboratory Practices and the use of animals in research
Knowledge of Clinical and/or analytical laboratory procedures
Knowledge of government requirements for using animals in research
BS in Animal Science, Biology or related discipline
