Purpose:

~ Lead the market sensing research function for Hyundai and Genesis focused on product research.  In a unique “cradle to grave” product development approach, the Sr. Manager will work closely with representatives from engineering, marketing, product planning, sales, and public relations during the entire product lifecycle from initial concept creation through post-launch of the vehicle. The Sr. Manager and team will manage a variety of sensing tools such primary research, syndicated research, online owner communities, and social media listening to bring the voice of the customer to every part of the product development lifecycle and to help develop new products and services to the market.

 

Major Responsibilities:

~ Product Research: Manage a team and well as the lead on all product related primary research activities (create research design for online surveys, product clinic, qualitative research, advanced analytics, etc.) that help guide near-term, mid-term, and long-term product development priorities.

~ Market Sensing and Consumer Insights: Bring trends and consumer insight capabilities to Hyundai and Genesis that will effectively guide the success of new products and services. The position requires an innate curiosity about consumer trends and mindsets and their influence on strategic product, marketing, and branding decisions. 

~ Consumer Research: Leverage a myriad of research methods to identify consumer target markets and to assess the potential success of new products and concepts. Key methods include segmentation studies, concept tests, focus groups, one-on-one interviews, conjoint analysis, amongst others.  Manage all product and consumer segmentation studies, syndicated studies, as well as advanced concept development product studies.

~ Online Owner Research Communities:  The Sr. Manager will supervise the team that manages the Hyundai and Genesis online owner communities.  This responsibility includes community management, collaborating with internal stakeholders, designing research plans, creating surveys, working with outside partners on field work and reporting.  

~ Social Media Listening: The Sr. Manager will supervise the team that manages the Hyundai and Genesis social media listening. This responsibility includes monthly report on social media metrics, as well as, ad hoc requests, collaborating with internal stakeholders on key topics to track, and working with outside partners.

~ Team Management and Budget: Provide strategic guidance, coaching, and mentoring for team members. This responsibility includes assigning projects, managing the research budget and helping with problem solving as challenges arise.

~ Interface with key groups throughout the company on a regular basis, including the Executive Committee, Marketing, Product Planning and Pricing, Market Analytics, and Product Line Management.  This position will enjoy exposure to all levels and functions of the company and as such must be an effective communicator to promote cross-divisional cooperation. 

~ Interface with our parent company (Hyundai Motor Corporation) and other Hyundai affiliates (Hyundai America Technical Center and Hyundai Capital America) to have ‘one voice’ communication and create synergies in various research projects.

 

Authority:

~  Research project management

~  Management of vendor teams

~  Management of two staff (Manager and Asst. Manager level)

 

Education:

~  Must be a high school graduate

~  Bachelor’s degree preferred

~  Master’s degree a plus

 

Related Experience:

~ 8 to 15 years of market or consumer research experience

~ At least 2 years of automotive manufacturer experience (from an OEM).

~  At least 3 years of supervisory experience

 

Skill/Knowledge:

~ Strong command of automotive technology and trends.

~ Strong oral & written communications skills.

~ Hands-on experience managing people.

~ Demonstrated experience managing consumer research projects, create research design, & implementing new methods.

~ Proficiency with MS PPT, Word and Excel is required.

~ Proficient with Automotive Planning & Analysis Tools such is a plus
