The Office of Military and Veterans Affairs (MVA) develops and implements a comprehensive strategy to provide programs, products and services to meet the unique needs of the military and veteran community in the areas of employment, acclimation and development, and small business.
JPMorgan Chase established the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs (MVA) in 2011 to recognize the tremendous sacrifices our military members and their families have made and to support veterans, service members and their families both inside and external to JPMorgan Chase.
MVA's Employment and External Partnership team is responsible for managing the firm's relationships across the private and non-profit sectors, government and higher education on issues of employment and entrepreneurship (i.e., underemployment, military spouse employment, workforce readiness of transitioning service members, access to capital for small businesses, etc.) related to service members, veterans and military families. This includes leadership of the Veteran Jobs Mission coalition, collaboration with other employment and diversity leaders (i.e., Business Roundtable, Disability:IN, SHRM), and relationship management with key governmental agencies.
Internal to the firm, the team provides a veteran lens to existing firm efforts and initiatives in order to enhance client offerings and benefit the community:
Serve as subject matter experts on workforce development in the military community and promote JPMC's efforts to clients, elected officials and government agencies
Advocate for veteran integration into existing programs such as Advancing Cities, the Business Roundtable and the Office of Disability Inclusion
Work with LOB and regional D&I / HR leaders to connect them with local veteran talent initiatives
The Associate of External Programs reports to the Military and Veteran Affairs, Director of External Programs. The primary responsibility of this position is to oversee all aspects of MVA's veteran strategy external to the firm.
Core Responsibilities:
Working with the Director of External Programs and in close partnership, support the development and implementation the firm's veteran-related initiatives.
Serve as an ambassador of the firm's initiatives for veterans and military families to other key audiences: higher education, private and non-profit sectors
Develop public, private, and non-profit partnerships to collaboratively address the employment and financial needs of veterans and military families
When need provide direct support the teams which lead MVA's programs including Financial Heath, Small Business and the Veteran Jobs Mission
Oversee strategy to disseminate veteran employment solutions to small and medium sized companies across the firm's strategic markets
Collaborate extensively with Corporate Responsibility, including Civic Engagement and Global Philanthropy; identify strategic non-profit organizations that will enhance MVA's goals
Support the development and management of multiple project plans; responsibilities include researching emerging trends, developing clearly defined project goals, objectives, and deliverables, measuring project success through measures of performance and measures of effectiveness, and managing project budget
Work as member of matrix teams to deliver against the firms objectives
Qualifications:
Military experience and/or experience working on military and veterans-related issues
experience managing external stakeholders and partners; external relations a plus
Ability to work effectively with senior management to develop and execute a strategy that supports the goals of the business
Excellent relationship skills with the ability to indirectly lead and gain consensus
Clear ability to think and act tactically, strategically and creatively
Strong analytical and problem solving skills; sound judgment
Strong decision-making skills combined with time management and project/program management/ planning skills
Ability to manage and execute projects within budget
Experience and comfort with public speaking to exemplifying the highest integrity and professional business standards, while exercising the utmost discretion in managing sensitive information
