Job Description

Primary Duties
The Program Director position is a high impact, leadership role responsible for ensuring successful transitions relating to Takeda’s ongoing global divestiture efforts. The Program Director will lead internal cross functional teams and be the engagement manager with the buyers of non-core Takeda assets.

Key accountabilities include:


  • Ultimately responsible for ensuring closing of transactions occur within projected timelines and in accordance with relevant purchase agreements

  • Work closely with all relevant functions to ensure efficient and timely alignment on key deliverables.

  • Serve as senior PM lead for highly complex divestiture programs which will contribute to the long-term success of Takeda.

  • Lead functional and cross functional teams to develop detailed workplans.

  • Drive all projects and workstreams to ensure critical path is managed. Develop and implement risk mitigation plans. Ensure plans are realistic and achievable.

  • Develop, own and communicate against the milestones agreed upon with the extended team.

  • Ensure program plans are made to ensure as fast as possible Takeda exit from relevant divested business.

  • Effectively engage with buyers to ensure program plans are aligned and business continuity is achieved.

  • Manage small team of project managers, cross functional teams and external partners, including consultants, legal / regulatory counsel and any 3rd party PM resources, as necessary.

  • Develop program specific workstreams, identify functional leadership, and governance for each workstream.

  • Lead functional and LOC teams to identify, plan and execute transition services to buyers. Identify functional champions and owners, as required.

  • Implement and manage project sub-teams across program.

  • Identify issues and lead effective resolution of the issues across Takeda.

  • Escalate issues to relevant management team as necessary.

  • Address specific leadership requests for information and communicate regularly.

  • Ensure the trams prepares reports and tracks progress for team meetings.

  • Prepare for and present at various Steering Committees.

In addition to the above duties, the Program Director will also be responsible for the implementation of a framework aimed at the development and execution of a cross-functionally aligned Marketing Authorization Transfer (MAT) plan for a group of divestitures.

In managing this MAT plan, the Program Director would be responsible for implementing a “green-lighting committee”, a governance body overseeing the MAT process and ensuring key stakeholder alignment. Furthermore, the Program Director is responsible for ensuring the relevant MAT plans are documented and continuously updated with input from all relevant stakeholders, which may include Regulatory, Supply Chain, Artwork & Labeling, Quality, Commercial, and Finance. The evaluation and execution of the MAT plan is a centrally managed and iterative process by which the critical parameters of the business transfer are defined, actions are tracked, and implementation is approved via a cross-functional and empowered team.

Education and Experience Requirements:


  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in pharmaceutical / life science sector.

  • Minimum of 7 years of cross-functional program / project management experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex cross-functional teams and processes.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent proficiency a plus.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of regulatory and supply chain process.

  • Strong understanding and competency in planning processes and decision making.

  • Training, coaching and leadership experience.

  • Demonstrated finance and business acumen.

  • Management and leadership of complex projects

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences field / engineering / business required; advanced degree in life sciences or MBA preferred

  • Ability to provide insight into complex program interdependencies and assist in providing related budget and resource impact

  • Ability to identify key priorities, align strategic and tactical plans and motivate cross-functional teams and drive effective partnerships across function

Complexity and Problem Solving:


  • Guiding cross-functional teams through planning and execution and leading teams in issue resolution and risk management is inherently complex. This requires a high level of problem-solving capability and ability to balance competing priorities and quickly and objectively drive the team towards a path which maximizes value or minimizes risk.

  • Working with a cross-functional team to develop robust arguments and tactics supporting recommendations to senior leaders and key stakeholders.

  • This role requires the incumbent to rationalize both strategically and tactically, influence without direct authority, and be able to present recommendations to senior leaders and key stakeholders.
