PRODUCTION ASSOCIATE - LINEN at Novo Health Services in Madison, Tennessee

Job Description:

MAJOR PURPOSE OF THIS JOB: 

Primary responsibility is for performing tasks in any of the production function areas in accordance with Novo Health Services Standard Operating Procedures. Tasks include but are not limited to soiled linen separation, hand folding, ironing, operating washing and drying equipment and load building. May perform some or all of the following duties depending on training and experience.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:


  • Remove soiled linens coming from customer accounts, sort and prepare for washing.


    • Open up bags at the breakout table and send linen up the belt.

    • The primary cart mover (the attendant closest to the soil cart) brings the empty soil cart away from the belt, puts a new cart in area and takes the empty cart and pushes it to the cart area. 

    • The bag breaker attendant breaks open the bags. 

    • The attendants on the belt perform the following tasks:

      • One attendant sorts large pieces consisting of bath blankets, flat sheets, draw sheets and thermals.

      • The second attendant sorts the second largest pieces – underpants, patient gowns, and fitted sheets.

      • The third will handles all the rest of the pieces such as bath towels, washcloths, hand towels, and scrubs.



    • The last stage of the soil room process is hoist and weigh or staging. The attendant pulls the full slings away as they fill up, puts an empty sling in, weighs the full one, records the information and hangs it.

    • Adhere to quality standards in terms of soil sorting and cart cleaning.



  • Place soiled items in the dryers and set dryers at appropriate settings.

    • Secure slings/carts full of soiled items. 

    • Bring the slings to the hoist area. 

    • Bring carts to the dryer area. 

    • Load the dryers and program it based on the individual formula pertaining to the item. 

    • Remove items from dryer and deliver to tumble fold area. 

    • Place other items in a basket and deliver to appropriate area. 



  • Take items as they come out of the washer or ironer and hand fold, stack, and place them on the appropriate cart for transporting to the next stage of the process.

    • Remove product from the previous process. Identify through previous job knowledge how many items per stack. 

    • Pull cart over to work area, adjusting the cart so that linen is at a comfortable waist level.

    • Fold items and place on the appropriate cart or table

    • For larger items, there may be group folding. Each folding partner grabs the lengthwise end of the item. The partners step back and make a lengthwise fold in the item. One person places it on the cart or table, in stacks of three or five, based on item. 

    • Fill up the cart in a like manner.



  • Run clean product through the ironer, catch it as it comes out of the ironer and count it for folding or for the next stage of production.

    • Bend down and lift flat sheets and blankets from the basket or feed table. (The basket may have already gone through a picker that loosens up the contents or may need to be shaken out).

    • Pull the flat sheets and/or blankets from the basket/feed table and feed it into the spreader, the machine then pulls it into the Ironer.

    • The first feed draws the item into the spreader and the second feed draws it into the Ironer. 

    • Pillowcases and smaller items are in spring loaded carts. 

    • Catch items as they come out of the Ironer, inspect it for quality, stack it and place in a nearby cart.



  • Load various types of linen items according the individual clients order, in proper order and to the correct cart prior to delivery to the institution.

    • Identify the various lines of linen products the company offers and its respective function.

    • Build bulk carts by filling it with the individual linen products.

    • Read the individual customer tickets and insure the proper product and count is then loaded into the cart.

    • Weigh carts in /out and enter data of into a computer program

    • Use a hand held electronic scanner.



  • Adhere to all quality standards associated with the different tasks.

  • Understand, observe and adhere to all Novo Health Services safety procedures and Standard Operating procedures associated with the different tasks.

  • Assist in any other areas as directed by team leader or management.

  • Perform other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Work is performed in a fast-paced indoor production area with little exposure to dust and high temperatures; moderate exposure to noise; climate-controlled environment; controlled access.

  • Travel required 0% of time.

EXPEREINCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:  (List the minimum requirements for the position.)


  • Previous production experience with quality orientation preferred(J1) . 

  • Detailed oriented and able to learn quickly.

  • Able to perform repetitive motions at a work station for a minimum of two hours at a time.

  • Willing and capable of working on different assignments within the facility.

  • Capable of distinguishing minor operating problems and deviations from a normal operation.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Work effectively and efficiently under pressure.

  • Basic analytical skills and detail-orientation.

  • Excellent hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity.

  • Willing and able to work on different assignments within the facility.

  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds(J2) .

  • Ability to push or pull a cart which may weigh 100 - 300 (J3) pounds.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.

  • Ability to read and understand applicable safety guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:  (List the minimum requirements for the position.)


  • High School diploma or GED preferred.

  • Experience in assembly may be considered as a substitute for education.
