Position Summary: Exempt position responsible for the management of Gas Construction and Maintenance activities within a designated area in the Southeastern US. The Area Manager will ensure a safe and productive workforce that supports all divisional, departmental, site and corporate goals while in accordance with all company policies and local, state, and federal regulations. The Area Manager will manage Supervisors and other field leaders and ensure that those leaders achieve high performance in safety, quality and productivity within their respective organizations. The Area Manager will also engage in job estimation, client engagement, and client development. This is a supervisory position that requires a minimum of 15 years of continuous experience and the skills to oversee multiple workgroups in multiple geographic areas.
Essential Functions:
Work closely with Supervisor(s) to ensure proper oversight of field crews, including safely performing new construction, maintenance or repair, testing, and troubleshooting work of gas distribution systems, which includes, but is not limited to, the following work types:
Gas main installation
Service installation
Pipeline replacements
Service replacements
Inspection/QAQC
Horizontal directional drilling
Gas and electric joint trench capability
Pipeline testing
Ensure that all employees and crews are in compliance with Pike safety policies, have required safety training, equipment and information
Direct the work and provide technical assistance to subordinates assigned to assist him/her and craft employees working under lump sum, unit price and hourly price contracts
Responsible for the proper allocation of personnel, equipment and tooling for maximized safety, productivity, quality and customer schedule
Responsible for maintaining Company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working conditions
Ensure adequate communication with customer regarding performance of the work
Minimum Requirements:
Must be capable of working in confined spaces/areas.
Must be able to work independently or with others.
Operational experience of various types of heavy equipment:
Backhoes, excavators and skid steer loaders
Trenchers
Track Crawler Loader/Backhoe
Directional Drills
Willing to work over-time or long hours during emergency conditions and/or when requested. Schedules can change frequently and with short notice.
Up to 90% travel required
Capable of following Company safety rules and policies.
Must have extensive knowledge of construction standard practices, techniques, quality requirements, applicable codes and standards.
Must interpret construction drawings (i.e. elevations, plan views, section views, details, etc) and communicate with customers and subordinates.
Ability to accurately evaluate technical situations and recommend resolutions to problems.
Ability to administer coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
Ability to develop and interpret a material list, bid packages, scope documents, schedules, and budgets required in work performance.
Proficient knowledge in all aspects of gas distribution systems.
Able to direct the daily work of the crews.
Knowledge of various types of construction contracts.
Perform employee evaluations.
Interview, hire, and terminate employees
Ability to interface with contractors, designers, vendors, and other parties connected with the project.
Experience as a working foreman preferred.
Check, verify and approve time sheet and routine reports.
Computer skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel preferred.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical equipment and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
