Job Summary:
Perform daily work activities in Central Supply (CS) that include ordering, distribution, maintaining and billing of supplies and equipment to the standards set by OSHA, Healthcare Facilities Regulations, and Infection control standards. Perform routine equipment inspections and maintenance.
Essential Functions of the Job:
• Facilitate ordering, receipt, distribution and appropriate billing of supplies.
• Work with vendors and negotiate pricing when necessary
• Research new products and communicate findings with Administrator and Director of Nursing.
• Inventorying, storing, and distributing medical equipment as needed for patient care.
• Maintain appropriate stock level in the purchasing storeroom
• Insure that adequate supplies are on hand to meet the demands of the Nursing department.
• Maintain adequate supplies on each unit to meet the needs of all residents. Insure the availability of all supplies to each shift.
• Assist bookkeeper in maintaining charge listing of all supplies and update as necessary.
• Performs equipment cleaning ensuring that all equipment is clean before distribution.
• Performs clean-up of decontamination area at the end of the shift
• Performs taking equipment to clinical engineering for inspection.
• Documents the cleaning of equipment in such a way that it can be audited.
• Purchase, receive, and inventory all oxygen supplies.
• Coordinate the ordering of special supplies and equipment with the vendor who supports community in serving hi-tech nursing care patients, etc.
• Assist to maintain properly functioning equipment needed by residents.
• Receives and counts stock items and records data manually or using the computer.
• Packs or unpacks items to be stocked in Central Supply.
• Verifies inventory by comparing to physical counts of stock.
• Responsible for maintaining stock in a secure location and minimizing theft.
• Keeps records of damaged stock.
• Maintains adequate levels of supplies, ordering when necessary.
• Examines and inspects stock items for wear or defects, reporting damage to supervisors.
• Prepares and maintains purchasing files, reports and price lists.
• Secure emergency or critical items.
• Review crash cart daily and restock with each use. Monitor cost and maintain related records.
• Communicate and observe the Corporate Compliance Program and comply with Code of Conduct.
• Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Required:
• Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of one (1) year experience in long-term care/acute care setting.
• Internal candidates will be evaluated upon completion of educational training.
Skills and Aptitude Required:
• Good communication skills
• Patience and self-discipline
• Basic knowledge of tools and repair techniques.
• Basic computer skills.
• Solid organizational, communication, and follow up skills.
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of 36 – 100 pounds with assistance.
• Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently and up to 40 pounds occasionally.
