SUMMARY

As a member of our Gulf Coast Region team, the Design-Build Leader (DBL) will be a regional resource with strong civil engineering project management experience and proven expertise in alternative delivery. The DBL will be responsible for the quality of civil engineering work performed, client service, utilization of staff, marketing, branding, contract management, and project profitability for alternative delivery projects. The DBL will also direct and coordinate the activities of project engineers, engineers, and technicians to ensure alternative delivery projects progress on schedule and within their prescribed budgets. The DBL may serve as a design manager for delivery of Transportation and Federal projects at both conceptual, technical proposal, and final design levels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES


  • Responsible for managing and leading alternative delivery project teams through all phases of pursuit and delivery including work planning, pre-award, post-award, and post-design services.
  • Responsible for day-to-day management of projects with regular reporting to the Principal-in-Charge.
  • Experience implementing innovative delivery projects (DB, P3, CMGC, etc.) ranging in size up to $1B .
  • Day-to-day interaction with contractors working in remote and collocated environments.
  • Responsible for managing and interacting with a diverse group of employees comprised of owner's representatives, program management consultants (PMC), general engineering consultants (GEC), and subject matter experts.
  • Work closely with office, regional, and corporate leadership to advance the Design-Build practice in the Gulf Coast Region.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Coordinate with all complementary disciplines in the technical preparation and supervision of planning and design tasks, perform plan quality reviews, and participate in value engineering studies.
  • Full managerial responsibility for all aspects of the project, scope, schedule, design, quality, and staff.
  • Initiates and reviews proposals and sales activities, as well as leads and participates in the capture process, proposal development, interviews and presentations.
  • Reviews plans and prepares or reviews technical specifications, contract documents and estimates.
  • Assures the project team complies with the contract agreements, as well as exercises rigid cost control to implement the approved design within established budget restraints.
  • Develops and mentors less experienced staff.
  • Completes the Michael Baker International Core Project Management Certification program within 12 months of hire.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The manager will direct and coordinate the activities of project engineers, engineers, and technical leads to ensure the project progresses on schedule and within the prescribed budget.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with clients and consultants and monitor engagement to develop a deeper understanding of the client.
  • Minimum of 15 overall years of experience with an emphasis on Design Manager and/or Project Manager experience on alternative delivery projects.
  • Demonstrated Quality Control / Quality Assurance experience.
  • Demonstrated team building and verbal/oral skills.
  • Able to foster collaboration between technical and management teams working across the enterprise.
  • Computer literate.
  • Ability to travel for work when necessary.
  • Prior demonstrated experience managing alternative delivery projects of more than $250M.
  • Well-developed communications skills.
  • Ability to clearly and concisely express project issues and analysis as it pertains to business and technical concerns to regional and executive management, commercial and finance colleagues, technical colleagues and peers.
  • Self-driven and resourceful to achieve goals independently and in groups.
  • Flexibility to adjust and thrive in an environment with changing requirements, schedules, and priorities.
  • Ability to generate ideas, make recommendations and come to consensus.
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively problem solve complex issues.
  • Experience working on large DOT and Federal projects a plus.

EDUCATION/LICENSES

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college/university
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE)
