Job Description:

Cigna Corporation is seeking a visionary director, masterful editor and collaborative leader to join the high-performing communications team.This individual will be responsible for the strategy, user experience and content for Cigna's revamped Newsroom properties, overseeing a team of 3-4 writers for both the Cigna and Evernorth brands.

Through a brand journalism approach, we aim to support our business growth by discovering and sharing the inspiring, untold stories of how Cigna and its brands are transforming health care every day by making it more affordable, predictable and simple. We are on a mission to reimagine our Newsroom from a repository of press releases and blog posts to become a best-in-class online destination for timely, dynamic, health-focused content (short-form, long-form, visual).

This role will be part of our broader External Affairs team working alongside Media Relations and Thought Leadership, and will partner closely with other divisions across the enterprise, including Marketing (including Social Media), Government Affairs, Investor Relations, Sales and others.

Responsibilities:


  • Own the long-term strategy for evolving the corporate newsroom for Cigna and its family of brands

  • Ensure content aligns to our unique culture and brand, enterprise strategies and growth platforms

  • Direct the editorial process, including managing a smooth and efficient system for finding, pitching, selecting, planning, creating, reviewing and approving content

  • Manage and regularly update editorial guidelines as needed to drive innovation and ensure quality standards; ensure awareness and understanding of guidelines across freelancers and business partners

  • Manage the publishing editorial calendar and ensure appropriate cadence of new content

  • Regularly assess and analyze user-experience data to determine the highest-performing content and regularly implement key learnings

  • Drive measurable growth for the platform (UVM, length of time on site, press release distribution registrations, etc.)

Ideal candidates will offer:


  • Bachelor's degree in communications or related discipline and 10-15+ years' experience in agency and/or corporate setting, with expertise journalism, publishing, newsroom, etc..

  • Background in health care in a strategic writing capacity, strongly preferred.

  • Ability to translate highly complex, technical content into concise, impactful, compelling stories.

  • Strong writing and editing skills; ability to write for a variety of audiences across multiple communication channels/vehicles, including print, online, broadcast and social media.

  • Strong verbal communications, with a proven ability to present and clearly/succinctly articulate strategies and recommendations.

  • Experience in translating the relationship between business and communication objectives.

  • Experience working in a highly-matrixed, deadline-sensitive, client services-oriented environment.

  • Comfortable working in ambiguous scenarios with the ability to quickly pivot directions and make sound recommendations, as needed.

  • Proactive self-starter who can jump into to virtually any scenario - demonstrating good judgment as well as tact and discretion to work with Cigna employees at all levels.

  • Thoughtful and influential personal leadership style, with the ability to develop strong working relationships with senior leaders, including C-suite executives.

  • Experience in using/identifying technology tools for measurement and reporting.

  • Experience in project management, developing detailed project plans and schedules.

  • Excellent organizational skills and experience handling multiple projects simultaneously with the ability to tie results to strategic business objectives.

This position is not eligible to be performed in Colorado.
