Key Responsibilities:

• Obtains specifications for work required on fasteners by reading part number and dimensions on lot traveler card and shop drawings
• Verifies that fasteners are ready for pointing by comparing head markings (when present) and dimensions of fasteners to descriptions on shop drawings, and by inspecting fasteners for damage. Reports any discrepancies to immediate supervisor
• Selects proper machine parts and tooling such as clamping jaws or fingers, cutting tools and bushing for set-up. Prepares machine parts and tooling as required by reducing jaws or fingers to proper shape and size with pedestal or hand grinder, removing burrs with emery cloth, polishing bushings with emery cloth on polishing lathe, and/or sharpening cutting tools on surface grinder
• Installs and adjusts machine parts by installing cutting tool in tool holder and mounting tool holder on spindle; assembles special cutting head for very short fasteners; installs clamping jaws or fingers into collar; aligns feeding mechanism and adjusts spindle stroke; adjusts spindle speed and feed; loads fasteners into hopper,; starts machine and inspects sample fasteners to verify correct machine set-up and operation. Refines adjustments as required
• Operates machine by loading fasteners into hopper and starting machine; observes machine frequently to verify correct machine set-up and operation, and to seee if hopper needs reloading; inspects sample fastener frequently, visually and with gauges and optical equipment to identify needs for readjustment of machine set-up or replacement tooling; readjusts machine set-up and replaces tooling as required; Inspects one fastener every 30 minutes to verify SPC standards; dumps acceptable fasteners from catch pans into tote pans
• Records pertinent production data on lot traveler card and/or data entry terminal to begin work, stop work, upon completion of work and at the end of the shift. After completion of job SPC information is logged and input into data entry terminal. Fasteners are weighed when necessary to obtain number of fasteners completed
• Performs routine servicing of machine such as changing cutting and lubricating fluids, replacing worn or damaged set screws, et
• Locates pans and moves pans to work area.

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) from an accredited instituion.
