Job Summary



The Senior Civil Engineer II is responsible for performing mastery level design and analysis work as directed to support various field and fabrication offices. The Senior Civil Engineer II will be part of a project team from inception through construction completion.


Essential Functions



  • Actively supports the Company's commitment to safety and its "Core Values."

  • Develops design concepts, prepares calculations, writes specifications, and issues construction drawings

  • Interfaces with permitting agencies, rail operators, utility companies and/or municipalities providing utility services, etc.

  • Functions as Lead Engineer, supervising designers and other engineering staff, interfacing directly with project personnel and clients, and monitoring budgets and schedules.

  • Functions as engineer-of-record for civil/site project scope.

  • Prepares written scopes of work documents and coordinates efforts of topographic/ hydrographic survey and geotechnical subconsultants.

  • Works on major project or several projects of moderate scope with complex features.

  • Reviews complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance.

  • Develops new techniques and/or improved processes, materials, or products.

  • Assists upper level management or staff as a technical specialist or advisor.

  • Coordinates work with all staff necessary to complete assignments.

  • Reviews and approves scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.

  • Prepares proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or programs.

  • Receives supervision and guidance related to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters.

  • Receives direction on unusual conditions and developments.

  • Possesses advanced oral and written communication skills.

  • Represents the organization in communications and conferences pertaining to broad aspects of engineering assignments.

  • Performs other related duties, as directed.



Qualifications



  • BS in Engineering required; MS degree preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) preferred

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification is desirable

  • 8+ years related engineering experience

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously under time sensitive deadlines.

  • Detail oriented, committed to quality.

  • Experienced in industrial and/or commercial site development, roads/streets/highways, storm drainage collection and retention/detention systems, potable water distribution systems, sanitary sewer collection and pumping systems, site grading, earthwork, etc.

  • General understanding of local/state/federal regulatory agency permitting requirements and processes/procedures. Experience in preparing permit packages.

  • Proficient in common civil engineering and Microsoft software (HEC, Civil 3D, AutoCAD, EXCEL, WORD, e.g.).

  • Ability to understand client specifications, procurement, commissioning and start-up standards, documentation, practices, vendor data approvals, etc., strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with project management software such as MS Project or Primavera is desirable

  • Cooperates with other team members; interacts with individuals at all organizational levels in professional manner

  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously under time sensitive deadlines

  • Exhibits excellent listening, oral and written skills; ability to prepare and make project related presentations to clients is desirable.

  • Experience in bulk material handling and liquid terminal facilities is a plus.

  • Occasional overtime and travel may be required.
