Job Summary

This position participates in and leads the design activity for RF switch/LNA/PA products in cellular handset applications. Product lines includes high-performance low-cost high-volume multi-throw RF switches, couplers, tunable filters, LNAs, and PAs with serial control interfaces. This position directs the development of products during the entire product life cycle from product definition through product release to end-of-life. As part of a cross-functional product development team the senior staff engineer will support other essential disciplines including marketing and applications, project management, characterization, production engineering, and test engineering. The senior staff engineer is expected to successfully plan and complete product development with little to no oversight and be proactive in identifying and resolving potential product issues. This position is expected to have a broad expertise and contribute to the development of the company's overall objectives. This position is located in our Arlington Heights, IL office.

Roles & Responsibilities

This position has responsibility for:


  • Product Definition: Assist Marketing in defining new products through feasibility studies and technical competitive analyses

  • Product Design and Evaluation: Schematic Capture, IC layout, Simulation, Package Analysis, Evaluation Board Design, Design Validation, and mentoring junior engineers

  • Product Documentation: Document all relevant product and design information to educate others on novel design techniques and provide guidance on product usage

  • Product Characterization: Work with Characterization and Test Engineers to define, conduct and analyze data from product performance characterization

  • Production ATE Development: Work with Test Engineers to define, develop and ramp production ATE solutions

  • Product Support: Work with Applications, Product, Test and Manufacturing Engineers to help answer customer questions, assess field failures, support yield improvements, etc.

  • Technology Development: work with Technologists to define the technology roadmap, addressing the performance and functional requirements of the product roadmap

  • Team leadership: provide technical mentoring to junior design team members; assist and support design manager with resource planning and cross functional team efforts

Minimum Qualifications (Experience and Skills)


  • 12 years of RF/analog IC product development with strong technical skills including:


    • CMOS IC design for commercial applications - bulk and/or SOI processes

    • RF IC design - switches, couplers, filters, low-noise amplifiers, power amplifiers, etc.

    • Analog IC design - voltage references, regulators, bias circuits, operational amplifiers etc.

    • Product definition - control interfaces, voltage domains, timing, RF specifications

    • Ability to plan and execute pre-silicon verification to assure customer acceptance

    • Mixed-signal verification

    • Understanding of non-linear effects in transistors

    • Knowledge of IC fabrication and how this impacts circuit performance

    • Serial digital protocols, such as MIPI RFFE

    • Familiarity with analog & RF IC layout techniques, including floor-planning

    • Hands on use of RF measurement equipment to validate performance

    • Software tools: Cadence, ADS, Momentum, Verilog-AMS

    • Version-control and release methodology

    • Ability to assess IC compatibility and performance in module

    • Ability to synthesize IC-level specification based on system applications/needs



  • Leader who can help develop the skills of the team

  • Team player with a strong sense of urgency to meet product requirements on schedule

  • Delegation/project management: ability to assign tasks to others and ensure successful completion

Preferred Qualifications


  • Strength in documentation clarity and completeness

  • Ability to clearly assess and manage risk

  • EM simulation experience

  • Strong scripting and automation abilities

  • Software tools: Python, Cliosoft, HFSS

Minimum Education Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent degree); MSEE preferred
