Job Description

Schedules personnel, assesses and delegates work assignments for every shift, directs activities, provides technical guidance for quality control of technical standards and accuracy of test results. Performs employee performance evaluations, counseling when necessary in collaboration with Respiratory Director. Administers respiratory treatments and tests as ordered by physicians. Directs didactic and clinical instruction. Work is performed independently, with latitude for independent judgement and initiative, and reviewed by the department Director through conferences and discussions of problems arising in the work.


  • High school diploma or the equivalent


  • Successful completion of a program for respiratory therapy education required and credentials (preferred RRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Therapy


  • Two years experience in respiratory therapy and at least one year in a charge capacity


  • Licensed by the State of Missouri as a Respiratory Care Practitioner


  • Verbal communications skills required to direct staff and explain procedures to patients


  • Written skills required to document procedures and information on patient charts and other records


  • Knowledge of the human development process


  • Ability to work effectively with patients of all ages


  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance


  • Lifting greater than 50 pounds requires assistance


  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and walk great distances throughout the work shift


  • Must maintain CPR certification for continued employment
