Position Overview

This is a skilled position involving the safe and efficient operation of various types of heavy construction equipment including but not limited to Roller, Blade, Loader, Backhoe, Water Truck Etc. in order to prepare grade for concrete and asphalt. This position will also work at construction sites performing general construction and clean-up tasks.  This position will also drive CDL water truck and other vehicles for the purpose of delivering water and other materials to the job site.  Duties of CDL driver will include driving truck pulling a trailer with heavy equipment on board for the purpose of delivering to the job site.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

Equipment Operator:


  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently by utilizing equipment within its designed parameters. Equipment operated may include but is not limited to Roller, Blade, Loader, Backhoe, Etc.

  • Perform labor duties including; shovel, rake and compact materials in grading operation.

  • Perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.

  • Keep machines cleaned and maintained.

  • Must have knowledge of proper equipment operation, grade and work operations

  • Perform “grade check” duties, including hammering hubs, reading grade stakes and plans

  • Other tasks and duties as assigned to meet business needs.

  • Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions.

  • Regular and timely attendance.

  • Participate in and promote an inclusive work environment.

CDL Driver:


  • Operate water truck and other CDL vehicles as instructed.

  • Loads and unloads equipment and secures equipment on trailer per DOT regulation.

  • Routinely assist other members of the work force in different areas of production.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.

  • Previous asphalt grade/pave operations and/or construction related experience preferred.

Work Requirements


  • Safety minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance and punctuality.

  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently, without direct supervision.

  • Demonstrates the willingness to work overtime and weekends/holidays.

  • Demonstrates the willingness to learn and work a variety of job tasks.

  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, site specifications, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions

Knowledge/Skill Requirements


  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Class A CDL with self-certification of non-excepted interstate and current DOT medical card required.

  • GRIP – with at least 90 lbs. of force                   

  • CLIMBING – in, around, and on equipment                    

  • HEAVY LIFTING – of extremely awkward parts and equipment up to75 lbs. from floor to waist

  • AWKWARD POSITIONS – getting to and from both sitting and kneeling on the ground

  • FLEXIBILITY – awkward reaches                      

  • BALANCE – including standing and walking on extremely slick and uneven surfaces while carrying.

  • VISION – 20/40 corrected vision to see moving safety hazards, moving equipment, vehicles, and obstructions

  • HEARING – corrected to hear verbal safety warnings and instructions from coworkers

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.

  • Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Other Qualifications:


  • Must be able to pass physical fitness and agility test.

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background check and drug screen.
