Cytogenetic Technologist

Position Highlights:

Nebraska Medicine is now taking applications for a talented individual to join us as a Cytogenetic Technologist. This role will be great for someone that has a passion for the laboratory and great customer service for our patients we serve. This specific position will work from main medical campus in Omaha, NE.

Shift:


  • Full Time and benefits eligible (1.0 FTE / 40 hours per week)

  • Monday - Friday First Shift with rotating weekends

Perform cytogenetic, fluorescence in situ hybridization, microarray and molecular testing on clinical patient samples involving tissue culture, DNA extraction, microscopy, karyotyping, analysis and interpretation, and report generation. Perform quality control, participate in quality improvement, aid in developing and drafting operating policies and procedures, assist in research & clinical assay development, troubleshoot atypical and nonconforming events, facilitate training and educational activities, maintain laboratory inventory of consumables and reagents, and coordinate the procurement and accessioning of specimens for testing.

Required Qualifications:


  • Minimum two years of lab experience to include one year of cytogenetics experience required.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 36 semester hours of college course work in the biological, chemical and/or medical sciences, in addition to, or part of the baccalaureate degree, required.

  • Eligible for certification or obtained certification in Cytogenetics CG (ASCP) or required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum five years of lab experience to include three years of cytogenetic experience preferred.

  • Master's degree in biology, microbiology virology, molecular biology, or other laboratory related science preferred.

  • MB (ASCP) CM certified preferred.

  • Certifications in Cytogenetics CG (ASCP) preferred

  • Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint experience preferred.

  • Epic, CoPath, Leica Cytovision, SCC SOFT LMS experience preferred.

  • General understanding of clinical genetic testing methodologies preferred.

  • Basic knowledge of chromosomal abnormalities and how they relate to clinical conditions preferred.

  • Work efficiently and independently to plan daily work schedule and set work priorities preferred.

  • Visual acuity and analytical skills to distinguish fine details preferred.

  • Ability to write clearly and to understand verbal or written instructions preferred.

  • Ability to function accurately and efficiently at high capacity and under pressure to meet caseload and TAT requirements preferred.

  • Manual dexterity to utilize laboratory and computer equipment preferred.

  • Technical, medical, and genetic vocabulary that will satisfy laboratory needs preferred.
