The Wall Street Journal is looking for an experienced Graphics Reporter with exceptional design skills to drive innovative storytelling for digital audiences. You will intersect with both our rapid and core graphics teams, as well as other visual journalists, editors and reporters. You will bring your own ideas to the table, and collaborate with others to create news graphics, interactive stories, multimedia, and data visualizations. You will be endlessly curious and comfortable in a role at the intersection of journalism, design, and technology.

You will start this job remotely, but eventually be based in our New York office. You will report to one of our visual editors.

You Will:
  • Collaborate with reporters, editors and other visual journalists to pitch and build stories for digital audiences.
  • Report, research, and create visual stories that might be original ideas, assigned by an editor, or collaborations
  • Think broadly about the opportunities provided by different visual formats, as well as approaches that are appropriate for deadlines. Create smart approaches for visual stories across WSJ platforms and external platforms.
  • Help reporters and editors learn new skills that will contribute to their visual storytelling.
  • Help review and provide feedback on other visual stories that are created in the department.
  • Work quickly and efficiently under tight deadlines with excellent news judgment and sound technical approaches.


You Have:
  • At least three years of experience working in a newsroom or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with information graphics and multimedia journalism for digital audiences.
  • Superior skills in design, including layout and typography..
  • Excellent knowledge of HTML, CSS , JavaScript and its libraries.
  • Good knowledge of the technical and UX nuances of digital platforms and best practices for building stories for mobile devices.
  • At least one or two other specialties preferred, which might include data visualization, cartography, 3D, or illustration.
  • A good understanding of business and financial news, with the flexibility to work as a topic generalist.
