Position Summary

The Advanced Engineering Center (AEC) at EGI is the center of excellence for the design and manufacture of both medical and automotive molds ranging from 15 to 3000 tons. We are seeking an accomplished Tooling Design Engineer for our growing demands to support internal and external mold design projects. The Tooling Design Engineer develops and reviews 2d and 3d injection mold tooling, fixtures, and end of arm tooling (EOAT). This position interfaces with internal and external customers to ensure tooling designs meet our high standards here at EGI.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Design production and prototype tooling and fixtures to specified design criteria considering annual part volume, cycle time, quoted mold specifications, and tooling budget.

  • Create 2D prints of highly critical areas as well as general tooling layouts.

  • Analyze internal and externally produced tool designs to verify plant and customer specific design specifications are met.

  • Present completed designs for review both internally as well as externally with customer present.

  • Assist sales and project engineering groups with design for manufacture issues and part improvements.

  • Perform mold CAE analysis consisting of filling, cooling, and warpage using Moldflow.

Required Competencies, Skills and Experience


  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in tooling design using 3D software, preferably SolidWorks or Siemens NX.

  • Experience performing and interpreting Moldflow analysis, both Adviser and Insight.

  • Prior Mold Making, and/or Product Design experience is a plus.

  • FEA analytical experience in Moldflow, or SolidWorks Simulation is a plus.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively communicate mold design improvements and suggestions via PowerPoint and email.

  • Must have excellent organizational skills and a high level of follow through.

  • Self-motivated.

  • Willing to travel up to 1 week per month within the US and Canada, and up to 2 times per year internationally.

Preferred Skills


  • Proficient with Solid Works, with Mold Flow experience a plus.- preferred

Education and Job Experience


  • Two- or four-year engineering degree and/or completion of skilled trades training applicable to plastics industry.

Work Environment and Physical Demands


  • Regularly required to sit and use hands

  • Occasionally need to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, with a potential of up to 25 pounds.

  • Sedentary, office environment; frequent exposure to manufacturing plant floor requiring the use of personal protective equipment (ear plugs, safety glasses, etc) and following good manufacturing practices.
