We're looking for an experienced, creative, energetic and passionate communications professional to support the client retention initiatives of CBIZ's Employee Benefits. CBIZ Employee Benefits helps our clients navigate the complexities of developing a group health and welfare strategy.


The communications specialist is responsible for helping execute projects designed to retain clients, generate new business and increase revenue. This role is integral to supporting the day-to-day functions of the National Communications Practice. The ideal candidate works well both individually and in a team environment, enjoys learning new tasks and skills, has a positive attitude, is detail-oriented with strong design and writing skills and is self-motivated. The position will work collaboratively with other members in Employee Benefits and specifically within the CBIZ National Communications practice to create communication campaigns, design employee communication collateral, deploy training and develop client service templates. This role reports to the Director of Communications and offers an opportunity to build skills and help grow our business.


Essential Functions and Primary Duties



  • Review and interpret requests for proposals; conduct additional prospect research to aid in the proposal process.

  • Create standard proposal content, language, and format.

  • Write, edit and format proposals, presentations, and other documents to be client-centric and tailored to the client's guidelines.

  • Monitor claims activities and results.

  • Advise local offices on standard processes to be followed in determining whether to propose on opportunities.

  • Assist local offices by sharing best practices and consulting on the process.

  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, or related field preferred

  • Proficient use of applicable technology

  • Understands health benefits/related terminology or ability to gain knowledge of health benefit related products/terminology

  • Excellent computer skills with: Microsoft Office Suite, including Publisher, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud software InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and PhotoShop. Familiarity with video creation, Google Analytics, Pardot and Qualtrics

  • One to two years of relevant work with InDesign Software or certificate of graduation course

  • Organizational skills and extreme attention to detail

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interface with all levels of management, staff, clients and outside business contacts

  • Ability to accurately prioritize projects and meet required deadlines

  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as part of a team

  • Shows initiative to continue to learn, grow, and expand skills as necessary

  • Ability to facilitate internal training on current programs and systems


Minimum Qualifications Required



  • High school diploma or GED required

  • 3 to 5 years of related insurance industry experience including proposal writing

  • Experience with CRMs, Adobe Acrobat, DocuSign, and the ability to quickly learn new platforms

  • Organized, detail-oriented, thorough, and accurate with a strong sense of urgency and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

  • Advanced customer service skills

  • Ability to work as part of a team, meet deadlines and take instruction from multiple sources

  • Poactive decision-maker with the ability to see the big picture
