The person in this position administers and implements company policies related to injuries, claims and investigations; fully investigates and settles, under direction of in house counsel, claims involving the company, including but not limited to those arising out of personal injuries or property damage; and performs thorough and ethical investigations and resolves exposures in a fair, honest and responsible manner.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administers and implements company policies related to injuries, claims and investigations.
Fully investigates and settles, under direction of in house counsel, claims involving the company, including but not limited to those arising out of personal injuries or property damage.
Performs thorough and ethical investigations and resolves exposures in a fair, honest and responsible manner.
Works closely with the railroads and across company departments, i.e. human resources, safety, etc. to perform incident investigations/analyses.
Cooperates and coordinates duties with others in the legal department.
Assists attorneys/paralegals in gathering discovery and preparation and trial of lawsuits.
Evaluates and effects settlements of claims within proper authority.
Initiates and works with regions and third-party insurance companies on collections efforts and claims.
Observes and reviews potential liabilities on company property with respective non-claims field personnel.
Reports insurance claims within assigned regions and coordinates with insurer and adjuster as necessary.
Performs all job responsibilities consistently with the company’s Core Values.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS:
College Graduate (4-year degree required) with minimum of 3 years of railroad claim experience, or equivalent time within the insurance industry, or comparable field(s).
Knowledge of all phases of railroad operation, a good working understanding of traumatic medicine, tort law, and thorough knowledge of the Federal Employer's Liability Act, crossing accident laws, and proficiency in all phases of railroad claims investigation, analysis, evaluation, and negotiation required.
