Primary Function

Physician, Pediatric Cardiologist, specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric patients with congenital and non-congenital heart and cardiovascular problems.   This involves consulting with patients about their symptom, performing tests, prescribing treatment for chronic conditions and when necessary referring to an Interventional Cardiologist or Cardiovascular Surgeon for intervention.   The Pediatric Cardiologist is responsible to the Division Chief of Cardiology for their academic, clinical, research and administrative activities relative to the Pediatric Cardiology services provided in support of the mission and strategic direction of the Nemours Florida Cardiac Center.   In coordination with the Division Chief of Cardiology the Pediatric Cardiologist supports the strategic, operational and programmatic plans and policies to achieve the mission, vision and values of the Cardiac Center.   The Pediatric Cardiology physician serves as a member of the Cardiology team, ensuring the successful integration of Pediatric Cardiology services into the Cardiac Center’s overall business plan.  This includes contributing to the development and implementation of the Cardiac Center’s strategic plan, ensuring all policies, programs and initiatives are followed and are consistent and supportive of the Cardiac Center’s mission, vision and values.

This Pediatric Cardiologist exemplifies Nemours values and facilitates collaboration and teamwork across the Nemours Children’s Hospital, Nemours Children’s Practices, departments, hospital partners, and across geographic areas to create “One Nemours” to ensure each and every family/child has the choice to choose Nemours.

The Pediatric Cardiologist reports directly to the Division Chief of Cardiology and has organizational collaborative relationships with the following:  The Cardiac Center Department Chair, other Pediatric Cardiologist,  Division Chiefs, Medical Directors, Nursing and Administrative leaders and Faculty members within the Florida Cardiac Center; Cardiac Center Clinical and Administrative Support staff; and other faculty members within the Nemours System.      

Essential Functions

Strategic Program Development


  • Contributes to the development and implementation of the successful integration of Pediatric Cardiology services into the Cardiac Center’s overall business plan.

  • Supports the ongoing design and implementation of leading edge programs, processes, and technologies ensuring continuous improvement that is expected to strengthen the integration of care.

Quality & Safety:


  • Proficient in performing and interpreting ambulatory Cardiology testing:  EKG, Echo, Holter/Event monitor and stress test.

  • Ability to perform and interpret fetal echocardiograms preferred, but not mandatory.

  • Ability to cover local hospital inpatient consultations and/or via tele-cardiology platform.

  • Ensures the Pediatric Cardiology services he/she provides are compliant with Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies rules and regulations. 

  • Assure compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies


  • Supports a “Just Culture” by balancing accountability for both individuals and the Nemours organization.

  • Is responsible for engaging in the design a principles and human factors analysis to influence the design of these systems so they are safe and reliable within the Pediatric Cardiology service. 

  • Ensures an open, safe and honest reporting environment is maintained by focusing on system design and management of the behavioral choices of all physician and employees.

  • Supports the Nemours Quality Improvement and Risk Management efforts to monitor and support clinical quality improvement and patient safety.

  • Adheres to the quality and safety goals relevant to Pediatric Cardiology Services.

  • Engages in the Development and supports implementation of policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of Pediatric Cardiology Services. 

  • Promote both internal and external customer service in support of the development and implementation of programs and standards which reflect that goal.

  • Foster and encourage professionalism throughout the Cardiology division as well as the Cardiac Center.   

  •  Utilize evidence based knowledge into Pediatric Cardiology services.

  • Maintain the quality of professional services provided by individuals within the Pediatric Cardiology division.

The Pediatric Cardiologist will build internal and external relationships, expand the sphere of influence, advocate for improvements and change within the department.   Participate in other Cardiac Committee meetings as assigned.  Participate in professional, civic and service organizations as a representative of the Hospital and Practice. Maintain a program of personal, professional growth and development. Attendance or online completion of all annual hospital training programs as required by Joint Commission, law, or regulatory authorities, as well as attendance at departmental meetings.
