What you will do

The Sr. Payroll Tax Compliance Analyst will serve as the internal subject matter expert (SME) for U.S. and Canada payroll taxes. This position will serve as the primary resource for researching tax law changes and monitoring changes to the payroll system when tax laws are updated.

The Sr. Payroll Tax Compliance Analyst will conduct a regular (no less than quarterly) review of payroll data input and audit of tax accounts and assist the payroll function in processing multi-state payroll and adjustments for all employees. Manage and reconcile payroll taxes at the employer and employee level. Assists with reconciliation to ADP Tax Service reports, preparation, and ensuring compliance. The Sr. Payroll Tax Compliance Analyst is responsible for supporting the preparation, review and filing of Federal, State and Local taxes. 

This position will work closely with several cross-functional business partners to ensure payroll taxes are reported timely and accurately in the most efficient way possible in multiple states and provinces. This position will be a hands-on strategic thinker and team player with demonstrated ability to identify and drive process improvement opportunities.

How you will do it


  • Ensure accurate / quality control, efficient and timely preparation and submittal of payroll tax filings; mitigate instances of penalties and punitive assessments due to mistakes or late filings working with our 3rd party payroll vendor

  • Perform periodic audits, as well as organizing and maintaining tax records to ensure compliance.

  • Correct reconciliation errors where needed and work with 3rd party vendor to prepare/file amended returns as necessary

  • Reconcile, research, and respond to Federal, State, Local and provincial tax agency tax notices working with 3rd party vendor

  • Works on special projects as required, including internal and external audits, W2 and W2c balancing, and T-4s

  • Supporting and producing necessary payroll tax details for various internal and external requests i.e.  Dept. of Labor Reporting, Multiple Worksite Reporting, and Bureau of Labor Statistics

  • Ensure documentation of Payroll Tax SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) are maintained and updated as necessary

  • Collaborates with payroll team to resolve employee inquiries/cases within the SLA timeframe

  • Creates adhoc tax reports to support internal & external functions

  • Researches and remains current with payroll tax compliance laws and regulations

  • Collectively collaborates with team to proactively monitor internal controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely tax filing & reporting to government authorities

  • Proactively audits and validates payroll tax filings / reports submitted by our 3rd party service provider

  • Reviews & confirms that all payroll tax deposits are accurate and executed on-time to eliminate any late filing penalties

  • Supports and Reviews Quarter Balancing & Year End processes with 3rd Party Vendor

  • Assists with quarterly and annual audit engagements with Internal & External Auditors. Ensures informational requests are documented, information is provided and that any issues are clearly identified and resolved

     

What we look for

Required


  • Bachelor's degree required

  • 5 plus years minimum experience with US and Canada Payroll Tax

  • Experience working the ADP Smart Compliance

  • Experience with researching and filing tax notices received from the IRS

  • Experience with preparing and defending challenges to tax audits.

  • Experience with multi-state tax processing and filings.

  • Ability to lead and motivate others without formal authority

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills

  • Experience in Microsoft Office suite applications

  • High Technical skills in Tax related matters


Preferred


  • Workday HCM / payroll software experience

  • Requires general understanding of accounting principles
